Corvette, Camaro in Forza Motorsport Challenge (Includes Video)
Did anybody else catch this? It's coming on again tomorrow night @ 11:00 PM. The first episode is up on YouTube right now. The Corvette is doing well after the first episode after winning the road course & beating Ken Gushi in the 350Z. They even threw in some eye candy in the form a female driver that can actually....wait for it....drive really good.
Video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uRYXyNX7ZNk The thing I find most odd is these are all supposed to be amateur drivers but they have Ken Gushi, some guy with 19 years of experience, and only one 18 year old (although the female driver doesn't have much experience either). That and they where claiming that a few of them couldn't drive a stick very well or had never been to a drag race! How do you race if you can't shift? Oh yea, the Year One muscle cars...blech. Quote:

Very nice! They featured the new Camaro in the show, so I was somewhat wrong earlier!! Also, that girl is pretty hot, from what I could tell on YouTube.

Very cool video. I yearn for the day when YouTube comes through quickly in HD video.... Grainy vids spoil it for me. I'll need to Tivo this tonight.

Re: Corvette, Camaro in Forza Motorsport Challenge (Includes Video)
I saw it last week and thought it was pretty good. You are right Brandon, that Ken Gushi guy may be too much driver for the rest... he actually was hounding the kid in the C6 with his 350Z down about 150hp. The kid may have been instructed to just keep him at bay w/o using the car up... that actually would have been good advice if that's what he was doing.
The Year One cars were pretty messed up... they may have slapped them together for the show because they had so many issues. I enjoyed seeing the guy in the Challenger running his mouth off about the girl and then getting his arse handed to him. Also enjoyed seeing the Camaro concept and all the GMT900 support vehicles... GM must be a sponsor. ![]() I've seen that Mustang before on HorsepowerTV when they were demoing the air ride suspensions... not sure if the motor is stock, but the girl ran a 12.99 in it... the kid in the C6 was 13.16, something like that. Should be interesting to see what upgrades they get. What would everyone get for the C6 for autox and drifting events? Tires?

Road Atlanta is a rhythm track and the kid in the Vette was overdriving many of the corners. Gushi seemed to be in a good rhytm and was able to carry his speed well off the corners to the straits.

I also like it when the NASCAR guys show up at some of these sorts of challenges and win on the twisty tracks. One like that a few years back that included racers from all over the world, F1, Rally, etc. I think they were shocked when Robby Gordon, another NASCAR guy and a U.S. motorcycle racing champion (although Gordon does well in a variety of racing venues) ended up winning.

Re: Corvette, Camaro in Forza Motorsport Challenge (Includes Video)
I watched it with a friend, and we're of the opinion that either Angela (Mustang) or Jace (Corvette) are going to win it all, because they're both good. Really good.
I'm not much of a fan of Ken, simply because he was told to stay behind the Vette, and he cuts across the grass to pass him. And I hope the guy in the Challenger (can't remember his name) gets the trailer every night. |

Re: Corvette, Camaro in Forza Motorsport Challenge (Includes Video)
I really enjoyed the show, and now have a season pass on Tivo. But....the kid driving the Corvette caught my attention. Did you notice that on the road course when he was driving at speed, he looked like my mother driving to the store. His hands were not at 10 and 2, 9 and 3, or anything that resembled anyone that has ever done even a basic DE road course event. He looked like he was just kind of cruising around out there. Combine that with a 13.1 in the quarter in the C6 Vette, and you really have to wonder about his experience claims.
Next, my understanding was that the cars started out stock, and got to do mods with their "winnings". Otherwise, Lou G would have shown up with the Vette modded all to hell. Problem is, the Mustang is nowhere near stock. What gives? The kid driving the 350Z showed me what an amature he is by deciding that he was going to do a bonzai move by not even trying to brake at the corner, and straightline his way thru the grass as a way to pass. I also love the steering wheel pounding as he threw his hissy fits thru the race. The female driver in the Mustang did look VERY impressive on the road course. Smooth, and a perfect line, and FAST. Too bad her team does not know that you want to run a street car with a full fuel tank to avoid fluid slosh in a large 15+ gallon fuel tank on a road course, and instead allowed her car to run out of gas between qualifying and the race. They blame a broken fuel gage. But, wouldn't you think that if you have been racing the car all day at the drag strip and qualifying at the road course that someone would have thought that the car might have used some fuel? And since you want to road race with a full fuel tank, that they would have to add some? Finally, this made Year One look really bad. They clearly do not understand that road racing puts an enormous amount of strain on a street car, and you have to do a lot of prep work. That, and they need to look in their own cataloge and order a driveshaft safety loop for that challenger before they pole vault that thing.... |
