Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

More on Gibbs to Toyota..done deal?; HOF to RCR engines?: hearing the decision has been made and that Joe Gibbs Racing [#11, #18, #20] will switch from Chevrolet to Toyota in 2008 and the announcement should come in early September.

http://www.jayski.com/teams/toyota.htm

AND: Joe Gibbs Racing still hasn’t announced whether it will switch to Toyotas next year, but the buzz is that it will. Some clues? Tony Stewart’s souvenir trailers were selling merchandise at 50% off regular price last week at the Brickyard, Stewart’s home track and a place where the Hoosier native is wildly popular. Also, a source at Richard Childress Racing said it has been approached by Hall of Fame Racing, a satellite Gibbs team, about buying engines from the newly merged RCR-Dale Earnhardt Inc., engine operation in 2008. Presumably, HOF is hedging its bets, if it ends up not being part of a Gibbs move to Toyota.(Ford Racing)(8-6-2007)

Hopefully not! Good drivers might help Toyota be competitive.

Joe Gibbs and Toyota sounds like oil and water mixing to me.

I think this is probably a done deal. I occasionally browse some of the 'nascar rumor' sites, and the fairly reliable ones are all saying Gibbs will be with Toyota next year.

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

This really sucks - Joe Gibbs has a performance line with Chevy as well, the Tahoe stuff looked pretty nice (800 line I saw)

I think everyone can agree that at this point Toyotas cars are not as competitive in NASCAR, wonder how Stewart feels about driving on that platform?

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

Toyota has been a joke this season, with the exception of a few good laps by Brian Vickers. They have put too much into NASCAR to just be mediocre. I'm sure they will keep throwing money at this until they get some checkered flags. I hate to be at the track when that happens- alot of drunk people could do a bit of damage to that place!

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

Toyota did win a Busch race recently I believe.

As for Gibbs moving, it would definitely make Toyota a lot more competitive and would cause a ruckus within Nascar.

Looks like Toyota will eventually become a strong force in Nextel like it is in the Craftsman Series.

I wonder how Stewart feels about this, or if he had any say in the matter.

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

Oh no I hope not....First I loose Dale JR to my rival Hendrick so I will not pull for him now cause i hate Johnson and Gordon so much. Now I jump to my #2 driver Tony and if he goes to Toyota, me being hardcore GM, I cant pull for him now either.

Most of these rumor sites had Dale jr going to RCR at first. JGR is still negotiating with GM the las I heard.

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

I have told all my friends this is the beginning of the end for NASCAR. Toyota has already ruined the truck series, by buying everyone out and not earning their way in. I will not support the truck series ever again, or ever watch another race. Now Toyota is going to do the same in NNC series, and to think of all the money i have spent on my collection, first Earnhardt moving to Hendricks, after i just painted my riding mower as the Bud #8, and the $10,000 or so of collectibles in my pool room, all Chevy by the way. I guess if gibbs does that i will have to get rid of my Gibbs stuff, the same way i got rid of my Mike Skinner Trucks. Its a shame our last true american sport, and now it is slowly being taken away from us.

Re: Chevy Loses Joe Gibbs Racing To Toyota?

Toyota is only doing the same thing Dodge did when it returned to NASCAR a few years ago. They, too, spent and spent to get the top teams and equipment when they started out. Not a big difference if you stop and compare it.

So long as the end result is the same, it works for me.

I could learn to hate Tony. It was tough hating Waltrip, because nobody hates a clown.
