Chevrolet Accelerates Marketing Push for Impala as It Becomes New NASCAR Entrant

BRISTOL, Tenn. — The NASCAR racing car of the future will make its debut in this weekend's Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway amid mixed expectations, but one car company has embraced the change in equipment.

Chevrolet, which uses NASCAR racing to promote its Monte Carlo sport coupe, will roll out a new car modeled after the Impala four-door sedan for its version of the so-called Car of Tomorrow. The Impala will replace the Monte Carlo, one of the most successful nameplates in NASCAR history, when the new-generation car becomes mandatory for all races next season.

While Ford and Toyota will race revamped versions of their Fusion and Camry replicas this weekend, Dodge will also field a different COT car, the Magnum. But Chevy has taken the initiative...

Why the hell is Dodge pushing the Magnum?

And wouldn't Malibu be more approrpiate than Impala?

Once the Impala goes RWD, it will be the perfect choice.

How Dodge is going to make the Car of Tomorrow look like a station wagon is beyond me.

The Dodge info about the Magnum is incorrect, Dodge teams will campaign the new Avenger rather than th Charger.
By the way
Jeff Gordon won the pole in his #24 Impala SS and Kasey Kahne will line up alongside him on the front row in his Avenger

I think the Charger and Taurus (Five-Hundred) are more suited than Fusion and Avenger. So to me GM is on the right track.

at least the WWF doesn't advertise products that are nothing like what you're seeing during their events. NASCAR just somehow escapes me. they shouldn't even call that an Impala, it looks nothing like one.

do away with what, wrecks?

Just a month ago in the Daytona 500, there were quite a few, including one car crossing the finish line at the end of the race upside down on it's roof, then just a second or two after sliding across the finish line upside down, it started on fire.

The hatred for Nascar to me on here is sometimes amazing. When you dislike something, generally you totall ignore it. But when you outright express hatred for a sport and do so with 'one liners' often referring to stereotypes...that is not a dislike for it...but rather just ignorance of what that sport entails. (I'm not sure I am referring to your comment, but rather the hundreds of others that seem to populate every single thread about Nascar on here.)

Will the Impala SS be limited to the Car of Tomorrow or will it eventually be used in all 36 Nascar races? I think they look better than the models all teams have been running for the past two or three years.

Actually, the COT will be in all 36 NASCAR races, if the France family gets their way. The COT is intended to replace the current generation of template cars.

I love this comment
Quote:
But Chevy has taken the initiative with a series of television commercials promoting the Impala brand.
Of course Chevy/GM is taking the initiative with this, considering that the Monte Carlo is soon to be canceled. I mean really, is Edmunds just publishing GM PR pieces now? Whats next, GM is taking the initiative to advertise their new trucks over the old ones? Ford is taking the initiative of advertising the Taurus over the 500? Geeez.
