Breaking News: Corvette LS3 to power new LMPC class in ALMS for 2010

http://www.badboyvettes.com/429

http://www.americanlemans.com/index_news.php?n=13593

For the 2010 season American Le Mans has combined the LMP1 and LMP2 cars into a single premier LMP class. A new LMPC (Le Mans Prototype Challenge) will be the "entry level" prototype and will be powered exclusively with Corvette power, the LS3. LMPC will also have a single tire manufacturer as well.

BREAKING NEWS.

The ALMS confirms the formation of the 2010 LMP Challenge class, using Formula Le Mans cars. LMP1 and 2 combine into the premiere class.

....and YES, Corvette LS3 power in every single one!

More LMPC details to come.

Great news for Chevrolet and GM!

This is not necessarily a good thing........these cars are just intended to be a stepping stone to higher classifications...LMP-1, and LMP-2. The spec engines are to keep the cost reasonable....about $1 mil per year instead of $5 to $10 mil. But they just become a very fast spec series [they will be fast] interesting only to the participants.

I actually enjoy watching the ALMS. Good racing. With the cars in LMPC being close it should make for some close racing.

You see more passing in ALMS than you do in F1. Or NASCAR. Actually, the new Corvette GT2 car made a pass to get a podium on the last lap. Johnny O'Connell was running behind Pat Long in the Porsche. The Porsche went wide on one corner opening the door for Johnny. And that was after Pat passed Johnny after getting a draft on the main straight. These 2 passes occured on the same lap.

The new Corvette GT2 car has been in 2 races so far this year and gotten 2 podiums. And that's in a great field. The Flying Lizard Porsches with Jorge Bergmeister are always competitive, as is Ferrari. The 2 BMW cars have been very solid this year. They got a break yesterday when the pace car came our and gave the 2 BMW's a one lap advantage. Unfortunate.

Great racing. Check it out.

People find NASCAR and F1 racing fun to watch (I think) so I do not see how this class would be different.

Me honestly I am a big fan of touring and GT racing, Im not a big fan of open wheel and prototype racing because they look nothing like what you can buy in a showroom.

Re: Breaking News: Corvette LS3 to power new LMPC class in ALMS for 2010

I am a very big fan of ALMS. But I don't like this new class at all. If you would search the satellites a bit you would find the far better Euro GT3 series, the Euro LeMans series, and the FIA Gt series. Which I guarantee you would like better. I wish we would join with them on their rules and classifications rather than just at LeMans and Sebring.
BTW the Porsche Cup cars added to the field just to fill it out are NOT FIA GT3 cars. They would be smoked by the real GT3 cars.....they are moving chicanes added to fill out the fields and not welcomed on fast tracks. They belong in their own cup series not ALMS, but then you can't fill a 4+ mile track for TV with the current 15 or 16 car field.

Oh well, we'll just have to live with it for awhile, I suppose.

Real Racing Club de Santande

Real Racing Club de Santander, S.A.D., sometimes abbreviated to Racing or Racing Santander, is a Spanish Primera División football club based in Santander which was founded in 1913. During the period of Francoist Spain, it was renamed as Real Santander in 1941 (because of the prohibition of non-Spanish names). The name was restored in 1977. The best result of the club was 2nd in 1930-31 season. Racing Santander finished 6th in 2007-2008 and qualified for the UEFA Cup for the first time in their history.
