"24 Hours of Le Mans" is almost Here!

The countdown has begun for the 55 teams invited to take part in the test day on 3rd June with the aim of making it onto the grid for the 2007 Le Mans 24 Hours. One of the major changes for the 2007 race is that the start has been brought forward to 15h00 because of the second round of the legislative elections. This modification will help facilitate the return journey of the hundreds of thousands of spectators who will have attended an
exceptional race.

And the French version:
http://www.lemans.org/accueil/index.html

And the LMGT1 winners from last year. The No. 64 C6.R thanks in part to the "smoothest" driver, Jan Magnussen, and team mate Ron Fellows

one day I'll see this race in person

Re: "24 Hours of Le Mans" is almost Here!

Always look forward to the LM24hr and the Corvettes racing. I have followed alot of motor racing (2 & 4 wheel) yet my interest in the LM24hr has not decreased at all, only increaded over the past few years.

For the GM fans, this maybe the last year Corvette runs in the GT1 class as they were having issues getting competition in the ALMS in that class. Maybe GT2 next year.

Interesting note, there are three other C6.Rs in the race, 2 for a french team and 1 for a Belgium team.

Go the Corvettes!!!

I attended the 2005 Mosport Grand Prix, and it was an amazing weekend. I can't even begin to imagine what the LM24 must be like!

That's interesting because if the vettes do drop to the GT2 class they may have to mod the vettes with lower horsepower or add weight restrictions so the vettes don't utterly dominate that class. Competition is always a good thing.

That is the largest GT1 field I can remember... 15 cars on the list, 2 more than GT2!

6 Aston Martin DBR9's
5 Corvette ( 4 C6.R, 1 C5.R)
2 Saleen S7R
1 Ferrari 550
1 Murcielago

.... can't wait!!

My friend is comming over in the morning and we're going to be watching it almost all day. We'll probably take a frisbee golf break, but next Saturday is LeMans day .

Re: "24 Hours of Le Mans" is almost Here!

Wouldn't it be awesome if the Corvette SS or whatever it will be called looked like a C6.R instead of a Z06 with a different hood and different fender vents? That would be beyond awesome, though it appears that it's not to be. I don't see why that would be such an issue; I don't see any features of the C6.R body that look like they would not work for production.

Re: "24 Hours of Le Mans" is almost Here!

The C6R just crushed the competition to the point that it's not much of a contest anymore, even with major weight penalties and throttle plate restrictions. Look at the points standings so far this season in ALMS, and it's not even close.

GT1 Championship Standings (unofficial after 5 of 12 events)
Manufacturer/Points
1. Chevrolet 106
2. Aston Martin 19

Although I prefer GT1, it would be fun to watch these C6R's smack around some Porsches in GT2. At least bring in some more competition.

Actually the GXP.R could be the LMGT2 car. It is doing quite well in the Rolex Series. Pretty cool to see a G6 passing Porsches. At one point at Lime Rock the Pontiacs were 1-2-3. I think Banner Racing took second this week at The Glen.

I would like to see the Pontiac Daytona prototype competing as as LMP1 car at "the 24hrs". The Audi R10 is awfully competitive, though.

I wonder why the Solstice is not running in the Rolex Series or ALMS?

With the Mustang, Camaro and Challenger all coming back. It would be cool to see the Trans Am Series come back.
