Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
http://www.carpages.co.uk United Kingdom - With spiralling fuel costs and punitive company car taxes, it’s easy to think that stylish motoring is being pushed out of the reach of many buyers. But Vauxhall is coming to the rescue with a car which combines one of the world's most fuel-efficient engines with the head-turning ability of the dazzling drop-top Tigra. Using the same 1.3-litre CDTi turbo diesel engine which has already been warmly received in the Corsa supermini, the stylish Tigra will instantly become the most economical roadster in Britain when it goes on sale in January. Returning an incredible 48.7mpg on the combined cycle and an amazing 72.4mpg in the official government extra-urban test, the average motorist covering 12,000 miles a year could save around £450 annually by choosing the Tigra CDTi rather than some of its petrol-engined rivals. The new engine won't dilute driving excitement either. With 70PS and 170Nm of torque, the Tigra CDTi has more than enough pulling power to make sure drivers don't feel they've sacrificed performance. And like the existing 1.4 and 1.8-litre petrol-engined models, the new oil-burner comes as standard with a sophisticated electro-hydraulic retractable steel roof and stylish lines which have made the Tigra a sell-out success. Tigra Brand Manager, Sara Nicholson said: "Rising petrol prices, company car taxes and concerns about the environment mean that buyers are looking for the most fuel-efficient cars possible, but they don't want to give up style or performance. Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
we need engines like this in more than just the aveo--how about some worthwhile diesels in a cobalt and a malibu? if i had the money for a new car, a cobalt diesel might just be enough to draw me from a jetta diesel.
sadly, GM probably doesn't have the guts. they'll probably do it after everyone else starts to. i hope i'm wrong. |

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
Problem is that this engine probably doesnt meet US's emissions standards, as most diesel engines from Europe.

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
psshhh... Aveo should get it first. Cobalt would be nice...but the Aveo package would make it so much more appealing and economical. 12k, and it gets gas milage better then the uberexpensive hybrid Prius.

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
I think we'll start to see more diesels after they make the switch to low sulfur diesel in the US at the sart of 2006. Some of the germans like VW and MB are offering some diesels already, but they can't be sold in CA/northeast states due to emissions. Diesels seem to me like a very appealing package. Take the MB E320 CDI for a couple grand more than a gas E320 you get 201 hp, 20 less than the gas, and 369 lbs-ft of torque, 137 more than the gas. All that and it gets 27/37 mpg compared with 20/28. The diesel goes 0-60 in 6.6 compared with 7.1 for the gas. To me, this makes a very compelling package--better performance and better mileage.

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
the Tigra is soooooo small, all we need is a convertible-Coupe G6.
I think putting a diesel to Tigra is a very good idea,it can be fast and fuel efficient, just like my mother's Audi A2. |

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
"VAUXHALL'S HAIRDRESSER"...Looks a bit "GIRLY" and being only available with 1.4, 1.8 16V and Now this 1.3 CDTi Diesel Engine; so, it's certainly a "GIRL'S CAR".
The Tigra's neatest feature, and strongest selling point, is its roof. Uniquely, the metal panels fold up and slot into a gap between the boot and the cabin, parallel with the seats. This trick is performed at the touch of the button, and Vauxhall's clever stowage solution for the roof ought to ensure a practical amount of boot space. Performance? Ah yes, the 1.4 do 0-60mph in about 11 seconds and top 110mph. Expect 0-60mph in 9 seconds and 120mph for the 1.8 16V-litre. The only bad thing about this car, it is its "Pawnbroker Shop" Interior. Too plasticky and the Dashboard looks dull. Actually the dashboard came straight from the Vauxhall Corsa. In fact, the entire car was based on the Corsa. I'm not really sure about the Diesel's Performance, because I never driven one. Maybe it will be good in a Light Small car such as the Corsa. I'm not sure if it will be good in the Tigra. I am saying, this because, the Tigra is heavier than the Corsa. Anyway, I May be terribly wrong, but I Think you Americans wouldn't like it this little car... After all, Let's not mince words here: the Tigra is for girls, and if girls don't buy it, Vauxhall is in trouble. The coupe-cabriolet format has been so popular because it's given attractive people the chance to show off when the sun comes out, without subjecting them to the traditional trauma associated with owning a convertible. Shame the Tigra's appeal isn't more blokey actually - men like convertibles too. There will be a certain crowd of trendy twenty-something guys who will be able to pull it off, but most men would tire of the strange looks they'd get in a Tigra. Because the Tigra is a fun car that appeals to the heart, a lot will be bought privately. Expect residuals to be very strong for the first few months, until supply catches up with demand. Just remember the failure of the Peugeot 206 CC, that was considered one of the Gayest Cars ever made and it suffered of terrible Reliability Issues So, as Long the Tigra's Roof works than it will be mission accomplished, I guess??? Best Wishes. |

Re: Vauxhall Tigra Gets Converted To Diesel
It might not be so bad to have a car targeted towards young women. The Mustang V6 does well.
But I've seen men driving Honda Del Sols, and that is a chick car if there ever was one.
