Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
Yeaaah.... that's certainly interesting.
Compete with the XC90??? I'm skeptical that the 9-4X will have significant safety features, above and beyond "standard." Does 9-4X take the extra step?? We'll see.

Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
How is this going to be that much different from the upcoming GMC Terrain, Chevy Equinox, Saturn Vue, and Cadillac BRX, or is there two different platforms being used that I didn't know about?

CTX (aka BRX) and 9-4X are ThetaEpsilon. As for the fundamental differences.... you got me....

Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
I'm glad the engine choices will help this stand out from the other Theta/Theta Epsilons. Turbo 4 cyl? The 2.9L V6 diesel? no 3.6L? GOOD. Something different. I just hope the interior looks and feels premium to justify the price tag. I love the new 9-3's, but not their MSRP.

i agree this is a good looking SUV and if you look very carefully you can see that a bit of the taillight decides to take a peek from under the covers in these photos overall very faithful to the concept so far

Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
we'll see when it hits the showrooms, but it looks okay so far. as long as they keep the powertrains fuel efficient, and even offer E85 capability then i think they'll have something. they must make sure that this car has the safety features of a Saab, and they must make sure that it feels like a Saab. no more shared products that are vaguely altered to make do. Saab has got to get off the ground, or GM should quit wasting their time with the brand. why can Ford keep the essence of Volvo and yet GM has trouble doing the same with Saab? FIX IT AND DO THIS RIGHT OR SELL SAAB.

Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
saabs are safer cars than volvos...despite the huge hype around volvos. saabs score higher on european crash tests - and are one of the few that score that high.
it looks to me that the "concept" will make it to production virtually unchanged...which is a good thing. i think it's very attractive. |

Re: Spied Again: Saab 9-4X prototype
It's "esque"...
As far as the exterior goes, the prototype looked production-ready to me, so I am not expecting much, or anything, to change - it was basically a SAAB-reskinned Antara/Captiva to me. Keeping fingers crossed for the interior, though - I hope the corporate radio will not make an appearance and for a comeback of the "jet c0ckpit" in lieu of it. The steering wheel is perhaps the only "modern" design that speaks to me. ![]() |
