Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

Why does GM announce that it is delaying vehicle development? Don't they realize it just looks terrible? You never hear about Toyo or Honda's internal debates about what cars to build and what platforms to use. Of course they have those debates, but we never hear about them. So to the world they are focused efficient machines. And what does GM do? Announce they're considering delaying the development of the next gen corporate radio to decide whether it should be 12" wide or 12.5". Brilliant!!!

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

GM needs 9-1 more than the 9-5 or 9-3 for saab..

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

not necessarily, 9-3 on Delta II is extremely important. I'd venture to guess that buyers of premium/luxury brands are more interested in cars sized Cobalt/3-series size up to 9-5 size than they are of an Aveo size.

Why GM just doesn't say, we are putting the vehicle on the next-gen aveo platform with premium suspension, component, chassis tuning, and worlds apart quality and feel of materials with a different stamped greenhouse....is beyond me.

? Really I'm lost on this, why not just put it on Gamma with the necessary changes and call it a day?

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

Gamma II is what it should be on so that it is a Mini competitor. So if it is Delta II it will be about 2 feet longer than a Mini. And at that size it will basically be a 9-3 hatch rather than a separate model.

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

They have to redirect their efforts (apparently they only have a handful of engineers who can only work on a single project) toward the next generation of SUVs and Trucks.

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

that's cool because, hey, Saab only needs products more than ANY other GM division, so why try to get something going now? how many more Oldsmobiles are there going to be before GM gets their s**t together? throwing a concept out there with no plan of how to build it is absolutely stupid. i want GM to succeed, but it's hard to root for the home team when there are nothing but a bunch of idiots running the show.

I disagree. 9-5 is one of the oldest cars on the road today. It needs a complete revamp. And it needed it in 2004.

9-3 and 9-5 family are the core of Saab.

The first MCE (circa 2002) was pretty good.
The second MCE made the car look like a raccoon.

Well... if you want to be picky, the DTS is technically on its 3rd MCE...

Re: Saab 9-1 Put On Hold

I would say that for the Saab 9-1 being shown at an auto show was a bit of a mistake since they have decided shortly afterwards to put it on hold/delay its release due to change in the platform it will be on due in turn to a change in marketing direction for the brand. These decisions should be made & set in stone before unveiling a given model at a car show.
I think that they should continue w/putting the car on the platform(Delta II) that it was originally intended to be on & then get to work immediately to do a complete overhaul to move it to the Gamma II platform & have the 2nd gen be out in 2-4yrs.

It would only be a temporary solution.
They would have to fast track the Gamma II (2nd gen)9-1 & get it to market it 2-3yrs instead of 3-4yrs.

Though GM being as they have been for years now, would never do this. They are very slow on the uptake & make illogically & even impractical decisions.
Wagoner being the beancounter he is has no vision for the company he heads.

I say "heads" above b/c he doesn't know how to lead.
