Originally predicted to be shown at the Paris Motor Show in October of this year, the 2010 Saab 9-5 won't actually debut until the 2009 Geneva Motor Show in March of next year.

As old (and sad) as the 9-5 is, Saab really needs that car THIS fall.

Well... this 9-5 is only 3 years late. GM's improving.

No kidding. I hope it is on the dealers lots the next day because the current car is incredibly old and out of date.

Re: New Saab 9-5 set for Geneva next March

Let's see. The first 9-5 came out in 1998. For all intents and purposes, it should have been updated 2003. But it's European, so 2005 would have been acceptable. And an MCE did come in 2002 (and again in 2007 to make it look like a raccoon). So, it's 2008 now. Hmmm... and by the time 9-5 rolls out, it will be 2010. A total of 5 years late -- 7 if you want to be picky.

S80 was revised in 2006. So by the time 9-5 comes out, S80 will go through a big time MCE. Will that trump the 9-5? Time will tell.

It's disappointing that GM has treated Saab like ****. It's best GM sell them to BMW or a company far more competent.

Re: New Saab 9-5 set for Geneva next March

Good, get the 9-5 out to market, then sell Saab to the highest bidder. Maybe Tata would buy them, they could slot them right below Jaguar. Or GM could sell them along with Hummer as a package deal like Ford did with Jaguar and Land Rover. GM really doesn't need either of them. It doesn't make much sense to have Saab, they already have that area covered with Buick and Cadillac. I remember back when they killed Oldsmobile, Saab sold less cars then they did!

I hope it looks a lot like the Aero-X.

I hope this change is a realization by GM that introducing a car 6 months to a year ahead of its dealer introduction is bad marketing. It leads to the perception that the
car is already old hat when it hits the dealer.

Sell Saab to someone else and let it drag them down.

Re: New Saab 9-5 set for Geneva next March

should have been out in October.. this car is ridiculous. The MCE was pathetic.

In typical GM fashion...

"The Saab 9-5 is the automotive equivalent of an octogenarian. Most manufacturers debut a revised model every four years, sometimes three, sometimes five, but the 9-5 has been around for over eight years now and it shows"

GM needs to start heavily re-investing or just dump SAAB completely. There is no excuse for this type of product starvation when you had a FANTASTIC concept a few years back that the media and public loved.

You are certainly correct - but the current Saab 9-5 isn't that bad...I'm shopping for one at the current moment.

There are a few 2007 units out there with $6000* factory incentives + Saab loyalty** and generous dealer discounts. You will find $10K off list is possible on a very well equipped vehicle.

Here is an example of one dealers stock. I was given a price of $ 29,915 on the last one...$13,000 off list (Note that it is a manual transmission).

This bums me out. I was hoping to see a new generation 9-5 on the lot when the leases on our 2007 Avalanche and the wife's 2006 STS are up THIS Fall.

So shouldn't the 9-3 that was in development (before they decided to downsize it) become the new 9-5?

Nope, it's time for GM to press Saab management to manage the company well or leave (and snip the golden parachutes for good measure). Cut and run is the typical GM S.O.P., and that's in part what got GM into all the trouble it's in presently. When the going gets tough, cut and run! Pretty pathetic motto, don't ya think?

How 'bout running a company like you want to win for once? How 'bout investing in product and holding marketing accountable for its misdeeds? Why is it becoming more prevalent in American society to cut and run whenever things get tough? I don't think that that's the foundation on which the US was built.
