As much as I'm a GM fan and would want to own many of their current and future offerings, I would be willing to BOYCOTT them with my car shopping dollars if this kind of condecending, flippant attitude toward their home market continues.

Bonehead decisions like this are what come back to bite GM in the ass.
I would pony up serious cash for that station wagon. It looks fantastic and there is nothing like that short of the 5/E/A6 wagons here in this country. GM BRING IT HERE!

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

I looks nice, but if the tailights are in the tailgate what does one do when you are carrying something with the tailgate up? Just hope that they can see your skyward pointing brake lamps? or what would you do if you were unloading the car in the car dark? No way to see your flashers.

Though it would make a nice Aura wagon, the 5 door Insignia/EpII architechture should be sent over to Chevrolet so they could make a new Malibu Maxx out of it, leave the wagon to Saturn since they actuallly did have a mid-size L-series wagon.

All the Insignia is missing is a coupe to have a full line up.

They dont have to "bring it" here, they have to MAKE IT HERE, "bringing it" makes it subject to currency issues which could hurt it's price.

Exactly my point! If GM wants to seriously step up their game in the passenger car arena, they must move beyond the current CTS and Malibu. Let those cars represent the jumping off point; now build on what those great cars have accomplished in the marketplace with cars like this and the upcoming Buick.

I cannot say it enough, GM BRING THE INSIGNIA HERE, AS IS, AS OUR NEXT AURA. It is truly a game-changer that totally raises the bar, and that would be good for Saturn and GM as a whole. WE are the home market and WE demand more!!

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

No, it probably isn't right for Americans. this would be considered a luxury car in other countries. Most Americans probably wouldn't pay the $30,000 this car demands. The weak dollar also plays a big part. I love this car in any shape or form. I have not seen the coupe, but I could only imagine. GM doesn't have the clout to get in the premium car segment. It's not a Cadillac. You could label it a Buick, but you can't get that Audi buyer to come near that prospect. Saturn still has that middle class stigma. Pontiac? I don't see it.
GM almost needs to take Buick and rename it. GM needs to start a European inspired brand with no history. No, forget Saab.
In Europe, the Opel range goes from cheap to very expensive. Opel gets a lot of respect in other countries. I dunno, you guys come up with a name.

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Why do the pictures show it in San Diego? Opel is not sold in America, and the Insignia is apparently not coming to America in any form, so why couldn't GM do a better job w/ which backgrounds they photoshop in?

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

It could sell well in Canada, where station wagons are very popular, as a Saturn.

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Babelfish translation of the german site web-piece:

By Christian Beckmann with AUDI he is called " Avant" , at Mercedes " T-Modell" , at BMW " Touring". Clearly, here it concerns the Kombinationskraftwagen, briefly: Combination. Also with OPELs one so far always knew, which body form is meant, if of " Caravan" the speech was. " Car and Van" stop, the best from two worlds, comfortably like a sedan, roomy like a Van. Meanwhile the combination is rather driven out Lifestyle vices as a workhorse, finally of the craftsman corner. Reason of enough to give a familiar and well-known name up? For OPELs already. If on that Paris autosalon celebrates the third variant of the Insignia world premiere in the autumn 2008, then it is not called " any more caravan, but; Sport Tourer". So much is clear: With its lifestyligen name the sport Tourer does not need to hide itself behind the word creations of the competition.

" We developed and not sport the Tourer as independent model simply as the combination version of a Limousine" , Mark of Adam says, Design-Chef of GM Europe. Whether hands to give the Insignia combination a new name is certainly matter of opinion - the Rüsselsheimer marketing stepping gene the old designation does not fit anyhow any longer into the concept. Nevertheless the sport Tourer is based on the sedan and towers above these with identical wheel base (2.74 meters) around whole eight centimeters. On 4.91 m offers the youngest OPEL place for five passengers and at least 540 litres reservoir in the tail. To already the seven engine variants orderable for gradation and flow tail sedan Tourer still another Benziner with reduced capacity, in addition gibt' comes with the Insignia of sport; s a ecoFLEX variant. OPEL before the official premiere does not move more exact technical data yet out.

Safe it is however already that it will give the combination also with all-wheel drive. In addition is optionally the FlexRide chassis on board. The system made possible apart from the basis vote the choice between the comfort mode " Tour" and " Sport" - Attitude, which " over modifications with steering element, accelerotor pedal and lighting color of the instruments; more active Fahrerlebnis" to supply is. At the same time with the Insignia of sport Tourer in the spring 2008 also the OPELs Eye camera premiere celebrate - them recognize traffic signs and warn the driver automatically, if he deviates from the trace. Which is to cost this system, OPEL did not betray yet. Just as little the prices for the Insignia of sport Tourer are certain. We nevertheless know its name now - that is nevertheless already times which.

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

This is a beautiful car but I can see why GM doesn't bring it here - too many Astras on the lot unsold which is baffling. Once bitten, twice shy. The Astra was here at the right time but why no sales? GM needs the money from Astra sales to bring over other products.

There are little spare Rear Lights behind the tailgate
