Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Its ridiculous that neither the wagon or the sedan will be offered here. I guess its too nice for the Americans!

7 Available Engines? I'm kind of jealous, we get 2 maybe 3 choices, unless you buy a truck, in which case, you have 6, counting the diesel.

Nothing worse than a diagonal line to separate the fender from the bumper cover.

I suspect the two new engines are the 1.6 Turbo ECOTEC from Astra (180hp), Corsa (150hp and 192hp) and Meriva (180hp) and the new 2.9 V6 Diesel.

Current Insignia engines:
- 1.6 ECOTEC, 115hp, FWD, 6MT
- 1.8 ECOTEC, 140hp, FWD, 6MT
- 2.0 Turbo ECOTEC, 220hp, FWD or AWD, 6MT or 6AT
- 2.8 V6 Turbo ECOTEC, 260hp, AWD, 6MT or 6AT
- 2.0 Diesel ECOTEC, 110hp, FWD, 6MT
- 2.0 Diesel ECOTEC, 130hp, FWD, 6MT or 6AT
- 2.0 Diesel ECOTEC, 160hp, FWD, 6MT or 6AT

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Wow! That is one sexy looking Station Wagon!!! Someone previously suggested that if Saturn isn't going to get the new Insignia as Aura, then Perhaps Buick should. there seems to be some logic in this Idea.

Question to GM: Why does everyone in Europe and China and Austrailia always get the great looking cars FIRST and North America Always gets 2 to 3 year old Left-Overs if anything at all?

Insignia Sports Tourer Wagon Revealed!

http://www.autoblog.com/2008/08/14/i...is-motor-show/

Quote:
Vauxhall had the honor today of announcing the next version of the Insignia that will makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show in October: the Insignia Sports Tourer. That's a fancy way of calling it a wagon, or estate as they like to say in the old country. Being that the sedan and hatch are quite handsome, it's fair to say the Sports Tourer is as well, though its rear end looks like a lowered Audi Q7. GM Europe says that all the bodywork aft of the B-pillar is unique to the Sports Tourer, and that while the length of the wheelbase hasn't changed, a little over three inches was added to the overall length. Vauxhall also announced a more power turbodiesel engine and smaller turbocharged four-cylinder will be joining the Insignia's engine lineup, but are saving any details, including the wagon's capacities, until the Paris Motor Show.

Buick is getting the new Lacrosse and they are in the same class. GM already has enough overlap. They dont need overlap in one brand either. Buick will be getting a compact car, probably the same as the next Chinese Excele. Once the forenza is dead, which the excele is based off, it should come out. Buicks biggest mistake was to not make the Velite. They will probably make the Rivera concept and I have heard that there is a mid size crossover eventhough that would make 5 for GM which is too many.

Re: The new Opel Insignia Sports Tourer

Not as nice looking as the sedan, but I'm not a fan of wagons at all. It still looks better than any wagon in the US though. I still think this car should become anything besides a Saturn. Maybe the next Impala? Or Buick? Or even a Cadillac?

This is what I want GM. You finally did it!!!!
I could finally ditch the Montana for this.........

Please reconsider and bring it over as the NEXT AURA unchanged.
2.9 L TDI + 6sp and AWD

I'm ready to put the $$$$ down.......

I see no overlapp, if the interior is different and the vehicles do not drive alike. Have you driven a 9-3 and compare it to a Malibu? They are nothing alike.

IMO anyone that would buy the Lacrosse if the Insignia was available needs to go far an eye exam. As usual Europe gets more of the great cars and North America gets more of the less desirable rebadges. Could this be why GM Europe is profitable and GMNA is hemorrhaging red ink? Where's the game plan? Where's the leadership?

GM NA is bleeding because they put all of their money into one basket: trucks. They rushed the GMT900s to market, yet never released an Aura Red Line like shown at the auto shows.

GM (and Ford) have all said that small cars don't make money in the US because the buying public would rather drive a truck. That's the reason why we still have the old Focus, while Europe gets the excellent redesigned Focus.

So what does GM have coming down the line to fix this? Well, they have a new Equinox coming, along with a GMC model. Apparently these are growing in size so that they can introduce a smaller cute-ute. Trucks are getting XFE badges due to improved fuel economy. Oh... Cars you asked? Well, the Cruze is coming in 2010, and a micro car is coming... sometime... before the 2012 Presidential elections.

To translate: ''its too nice for Americans, let's decontent and cheapen it out, giving them scraps. Let's take it from outstanding to its good enough"

As much as I'm a GM fan and would want to own many of their current and future offerings, I would be willing to BOYCOTT them with my car shopping dollars if this kind of condecending, flippant attitude toward their home market continues.

Bonehead decisions like this are what comes back to bite GM in the ass.
