- Ultra-modern powertrains: Economical, lively engines and low-friction gearboxes
- Comprehensive safety: New assistance systems such as Front Collision Warning
- First-class interior: Clearly laid-out ****pit and top connectivity thanks to IntelliLink
- Attractive entry-level price: Now available from 11,980 euros

Rüsselsheim. Raise the curtain on a real star. It is undisputedly a bestseller, a small car of the finest quality: the Opel Corsa. Across four generations spanning 32 years, almost 12 million units have been sold across Europe, including 2.8 million of the current Corsa D. Now Opel’s bestseller makes its world premiere at the “Mondial de l’Automobile 2014” in Paris (October 4 - 19). Following a week of haute couture at the Paris Fashion Week, the Corsa will bring haute voiture to the French capital. The fifth generation will roll off the assembly lines in Eisenach and Zaragoza before the end of the year. For the attractive entry-level price of 11,980 euros, the Corsa E can now be ordered in Germany in its sporty three-door bodystyle with a gasoline engine. Efficient driving fun with the diesel variant can be had for prices starting at 14,930 euros. For just 750 euros more, the new Corsa is available as a comfortable, family-friendly five-door model (RRP incl. VAT in Germany).

Engine highlight: Completely new 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo

High-class, compact, sophisticated: At just 4.02 meter in length, the new Corsa offers qualities in terms of driving fun, precision and comfort with a premium touch that customers are otherwise only familiar with from larger and more expensive cars. But it’s not just about looks in the city of fashion – what’s under the packaging is also important in Paris. The highlight under the Corsa E’s hood is the newly-developed three-cylinder, 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, part of the brand’s major powertrain offensive. This ultra-modern pocket powerhouse is the only 1.0-liter three-cylinder production engine with a balance shaft, which enables it to set a new class benchmark for exceptionally low noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) characteristics, as well as high driving comfort. The compact, all-aluminum 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo, which of course already meets Euro 6 emission standards, is available in two output configurations, giving 66 kW/90 hp or 85 kW/115 hp for prices starting at 14,480 euros (three-door) or 15,230 euros (five-door). Both shine with excellent responsiveness and strong low-end torque, pumping out 170 Nm from just 1,800 rpm. This is particularly evident during acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h, an exceptionally important speed range for overtaking, when this compact powerhouse belies its size by delivering strong power from low rpm. The Corsa with the 115 hp makes this transition in just 11.3 seconds. Opel’s powerful new, 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo fitted with Start/Stop technology as standard also boasts exemplary economy: the 90 hp three-door version consumes just 4.3 liters gasoline per 100 km in the combined cycle.

The new Corsa’s gasoline powertrain line-up is also extended with the introduction of a new 74 kW/100 hp 1.4-liter turbo engine with 200 Nm maximum torque, as well as further developed, Euro 6 compliant 1.2 and 1.4-liter naturally-aspirated units giving 51 kW/70 hp and 66 kW/90 hp. In addition, completely revised, more refined and now also Euro 6 compliant 1.3 CDTI engines with 55 kW/75 hp and 70 kW/95 hp expand the Corsa offer on the diesel side. New-generation turbo chargers ensure smooth driving and acceleration at low engine speeds with minimal noise generation. Both versions come with fuel-saving Start/Stop technology fitted as standard. At launch, the most frugal Corsa diesel version – with 70 kW/95 hp, 5-speed manual transmission and braking energy recuperation system – can reduce the three-door model‘s CO2 emissions down to 85 g/km and fuel consumption down to 3.2 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle. This earns it the German A+ energy efficiency label (according to Regulation [EC] No 715/2007).

But it is not just completely new and further developed engines that make driving the new Corsa even more fun and comfortable. The introduction of new transmissions also contributes to the enhanced driving experience and improvement in efficiency. Both versions of the 1.0 ECOTEC Direct Injection Turbo are mated to an all-new, compact six-speed manual gearbox. Highlights include greater efficiency, thanks to low friction design and a precise shift feel. Changing gears in the new Corsa is comfortable and smooth, as well as fast and precise. With the launch of the new Corsa, Opel also offers its newest-generation six-speed automatic transmission, as well as the completely new automated manual transmission Easytronic 3.0 giving enhanced, smoother responsiveness – the perfect way to affordably combine the comfort of an automatic with the efficiency of a manual. The new Easytronic 3.0 is available for just 575 euros more than the five-speed manual transmission, and in the 66 kW/90 hp Corsa 1.4 ecoFLEX, fuel consumption can be reduced down to 4.7 liters per 100 km in the combined cycle, equaling CO2 emissions of 110 g/km. Start/Stop technology is always on board.

Top safety and best connectivity: IntelliLink and assistance systems

The Corsa’s high-quality cabin is also stylish, modern and trendsetting. The cleanly designed ****pit is organized around an eye-catching driver control center and the instrument panel fascia. The optional IntelliLink infotainment system’s 7-inch color touchscreen is ideally located on the center stack between driver and front passenger. Opel’s award-winning infotainment system offers best connectivity opportunities, is compatible with Apple and Android devices and can be operated by voice command. Bluetooth and Siri Eyes Free can also be used. Several apps are available such as BringGo for navigation, as well as Stitcher and TuneIn for internet radio. Opel offers IntelliLink for Edition trim versions and above for just 300 euros.

The Corsa 5 introduces a host of driver assistance systems, many of which are unrivalled in its vehicle class. The bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights and cornering light impress with lower power consumption, longer service life and improved range, brightness and color intensity – a decisive plus for visibility and safety. Driving comfort is improved by the Advanced Park Assist that automatically steers during parking maneuvers. The Side Blind Spot Alert sensors have a range of three meters to the left and right of the vehicle, and also detect objects or other vehicles in the driver’s ‘blind spots’. Whenever another vehicle comes within range of the sensors, a warning LED illuminates in the relevant outside door mirror. The optional combined pack, comprising the up-level functionalities of Park Assist and Side Blind Spot Alert, is offered for just 580 euros.

Hill Start Assist comes as standard and maintains the brake function for about two seconds after the driver has taken his/her foot off the brake pedal. This prevents the Corsa from rolling back when starting on a slope or, for instance, when driving off from traffic lights or a parking spot on a hill. High-tech extras such as the optional Rearview Camera for 295 euros can also be integrated, and safety is increased thanks to new systems – such as the second-generation Opel Eye front camera with Road Sign Recognition, Lane Departure Warning, High Beam Assist, Following Distance Indication and Forward Collision Warning. To provide maximum safety, Forward Collision Warning uses an acoustic alert and a red, head-up warning that is projected into the windscreen as soon as the distance to the preceding vehicle car falls below the pre-set minimum distance. The standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System display warns the driver in the event of excessive pressure loss in one of the tires.

The new, speed-sensitive electric power steering features a new steering geometry and steering software calibration for more precise response and improved driving pleasure and comfort. A new standard feature that allows reduced steering effort at low speeds, the City mode is easily activated at the press of a button. The steering wheel, front seats and the ThermaTec windshield can all be heated to provide cozy warmth in the cabin and good visibility on cold days.

did they have the Adam and agila at the same period covered here? Because it might be they kept the demographic of buyers in the segment over a wider range of product

It looks exactly the same as the current model, Mr Hertz and Mr Avis will still buy them NEW you are right.

Have Opel ever made a profit on the roof of a Corsa in the last decade, l think not.

Will high German Corsa labor cost wage bill ever be able to complete on price with cheap labor costs with a bigger Romanian Dacia Sandero or Stepway SUV?

The market share of the corsa did not sink as much as the market share of Opel itself. So the Corsa still performed very well, eaven in 2013, when - for a while - it outsold the Volkswagen Polo.

The SCCS platform was planned to be replaced by Gamma in 2015, so it is fully amortized. With the new engines, the new interior and the new infotainment there will be enough customers, I think.

The Opel/Vauxhall Corsa used the Gamma platform for the -C model (2000-2006), itself just a development of the GM 4200 platform used by the Corsa -A and -B (1982-2000).

The SCCS platform, developed jointly by Fiat/GM, and used for the Corsa-D (2006-2014) and now -E, is much more modern than Gamma which would be a backward step to re-use.

In first 7 months Opel sold 153,620 Corsas, which is 3,2% more than same period in 2013. It is currently on no.5 in Europe by sales numbers, and has the biggest market rise in top 5 in last month. Even now when you have all the photos of new model sales are up. Corsa will not hit 2007. numbers, probably, because Adam took about 50,000 of its buyers per year, and also because it will take a long time for european market to hit numbers from 2007. Corsa is very good small car and one of the most popular in europe. You will see that when it hits the market, you can easily expect it to become no.2 in europe. Those were realistic positions for corsa, but this model is already 8 years on the market, so you have to understand that.
Other important thing is that many people will not know that is just a big facelift. Trust me. You like cars and look for all of the details on in, so you know- but "regular" buyers will just see it looks a lots of like the old generation- and will say- ok, last one was so good they decided not to change it a lot. They don't even know what word "platform" means xD
If they really did improved handling and steering, with those better turbo engines it will be a very good car. Today, when you drive Corsa Color Edition everybody still stare at it :D it just looks better than other competitors. Color Edition line was a great hit which makes car looks different than any other.
And the last thing, I believe that next Opel/Vauxhall Viva will not be any problem for Corsa, because they have different types of buyers. Viva will probably have much less equipment and less powerful engines. Also build quality will not be the same, so still Corsa is going to better deal. Few buyers will leave ofcourse, but not too much. They will more likely come from buyers of Spark, picanto, i10 and cars like that. If they costs the same everyone will be more happy to buy Opel than Korean ;)

Now officially I think you wrote most-stupid-comments-ever on Opel topic here.
Just to know- GM did not sell Opel because all FWD depends on them- all engines, platforms, and patents are created by Opel workers, and if they sold Opel they would lose- Buick, Holden, Vauxhall, Opel and half of Chevrolet technology. You really think GM would survive with Cadillac, and few of pick-up copies Chevrolet/GMC? Don't be crazy. Next day they could close up and go home ;)

Playing with numbers gets nowhere - the 28 EU countries aren't the same size and don't have the same politics.

I notice you never play with the $20 billion paper loss that Opel made to find out where it went and why Opel never gets full value for the IP it creates - but an ongoing concern making a loss is whole lot healthier than a company that had to go bankrupt to get rid of it's debts, neither are good but don't preach from your pedestal.

The figures you quote are head office accounting figures for the benefit of their shareholders - they don't reflect the reality of Opel's Income & Expenditure account.

Over the last decade, Opel have spent $billions out of revenue, on updated Delta and Epsilon platforms as well as new generation I4 diesels, for which they are then charged IP fees by GM Detroit - with accounting like that Opel can never make a profit as it's retained in Detroit but all costs born in Europe - it's not dissimilar to the way every multi-national works but they operate management accounts alongside the published figures to establish the real situation.

Without Opel, what car products would GM have for Buick and Chevrolet? Just Holden's SS,their own Camaro/Corvette and large SUVs - not much to show for what used to be the world's biggest car company.

Last time l looked at Morgan Stanley current valuation of Opel/Vauxhall it was negative minus -$16 billions, GM USA ploughed another $5.2 billion in Opel into Opel design department for covering the cost of designing small medium Opel cars and small diesel engines & restructuring most of which will not be powering USA cars. Even with that money ploughed into the Opel money pit, Opel still got a negative valuation of -$11.5 billions. So General Motors are stuck with a dead duck minus -$11.5 billion negative equality loser which can't be sold on, yep on top of Opel being a negative value to GM an asset of minus $11.5 billions that have also lost $20 billions in the last decade thats a loss totalling $31.5 billion loser on hidden General Motors over the last decade have on their books, excluding the $5.2 billion GM invested in Opel R&D for the next 10 years.

Opel-Vauxhall has been a serial value-muncher. It lost $1.8 billion in 2012, and has notched up a scarcely credible $18 billion in red ink since 1999. Opel’s revenues are forecast to stagnate from roughly $20.1 billion in 2013 to $20.4 billion by 2017, and l expect you think costs material, wages & energy costs will become negative Rupert LOL.

Opel are a massive negative asset to General Motors, that loses $20 billions and gets given another $5.2 billions from GM USA for Opel R&D.

You & Patrick still have not answered my question why are VW, BMW & Mercedes Benz (Whose cars are not developed for free) still making big profits in Europe, and Opel are losing $20 billions in Europe, Opel are valued as negative equality -$11.5 billion a negative asset by Morgan Stanley despite GM sending another boatload of cash $5.2 billions over for investment in R&D?

Opel has negative value? In other words GM Detroit could give Opel away to the German government and make a profit?

That sounds like a good plan - as long as they don't want any new FWD cars - cut GM down to GMC trucks, Cadillac premium cars and Chevrolet sports cars, that'll be profitable as long as they don't try to export outside North America.

You wear the Opel minus -$11.5 billion Morgan Stanley valuation as badge of honour as well as being a $20 billion loss maker as well as if being total useless is good & clever, as if its something to be proud rather than be totally be ashamed of.

Others in the world work hard still have massive development cost but make huge profits. Opel just returned $20 billion in losses selling useless no profit on roof FWD cars with the most expensive German labor costs in the world. BMW, Mercedes & VW (Porsche) use expensive German labor but make massive profits in Europe.

CNN - The Worlds most profitable cars, the wealth creators.

1. RWD/AWD Ford F-series $50bn

2. RWD/AWD GM Chevrolet Silverado $40bn

3. RWD/AWD Dodge Ram $18bn

3. RWD Mercedes S-Class $18bn

4. RWD BMW 5-series $24bn

5. RWD BMW 3-series US$17bn

6. RWD Mercedes E-Class US$13bn.

7. RWD Lexus US$12bn

8. FWD Honda Accord US$11bn.

9. AWD Jeep Grand Cherokee $7bn.

10.RWD Porsche 911 US$10bn

CNN LINK

FWD Opel valued at minus -$11.5 as a company a liability, and lose $20 billions in Europe in the last decade.
GM shipped another $5.2 billions boatloads of cash over as well for R&D. Only product that l like in the Opel range is the AWD Mokka that will turn in a decent profit, why can't we have more cars like this generate profits at Opel, quality rather than quantity sold at a huge loss or move Opel out of Germany base them in Romania with cheaper costs to make FWD car pay, like Dacia that are generating almost premium profits from value cars with cheaper labor costs.

All these car makers above have design departments Rupert Trooper believe it or not, but what do their tin cans with 4 wheels in in their drivetrain have that Opel lacks? BMW & Mercedes did not start at the top they had to earn their stripes, when are Opel gonna start earning their stripes in Europe, you seem to gloat over the fact that Opel are so totally useless GM can't afford to get rid of them is clever, where being useless as a badge of honour, are proud that Opel are worth nothing so they can be given away for nothing, nothing is far to valuable statement of Opel by you, when they are valued at being a minus -$11.5 liability by Morgan Stanley that nobody would ever touch.

You still have not answered my question on how other German cars makers BMW, Mercedes Benz & VW (Porsche) have, that can turn in a profit in Europe, and Opel don't have that lose $20 billions in a decade?

Oldsmobile Stopped... As you know, Opel/Vauxhall are owned by GM. That means components, staffing, R&D, pretty much everything with monetary or any kind of value, is shared. GM can square the books however it likes in Detroit's favour; you only have one selective set of data to go on. As others have rightly said, your maths stinks. I hope that's a straight enough answer for you.
