New Opel Corsa ecoFLEX with only 64mpg and 98g/km CO2

New Opel Corsa ecoFLEX with only 3.7 liter/100 km and 98g/km CO2
GM Europe
October 28, 2009

Starting January 2010, the new Opel Corsa ecoFLEX is more respectful of the environment and fun to drive than ever. It is powered by a sophisticated, 70 kW/95 hp 1.3 CDTI diesel engine boosted by a turbo with a variable geometry. It is packed with 28 percent more power than the previous generation Corsa ecoFLEX even though fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are slashed by some 10 percent – yet the price is the same as the standard 90 hp Corsa 1.3 CDTI.

The new Corsa ecoFLEX illustrates Opel’s philosophy of developing ecologically responsible cars that are still fun to drive. With its 190 Nm (140lbf ft) of torque available between 1750 and 3250 rpm, this Corsa ecoFLEX needs only 3.7 l/100 km (64mpg), releasing just 98 g/km CO2 as a three-door. The five-door Corsa emits 99 g/km.

Both versions are equipped with a standard Diesel Particulate Filter which dramatically reduces the emissions that are the most detrimental to health. With this Corsa ecoFLEX, fleet and private drivers in many European countries may benefit from special eco tax advantages without polluting the air with diesel particulates.

Also, the new Corsa ecoFLEX can be ordered with a variety of equipment variants. This means that customers have the choice of which trim and equipment they would like in their car, from the starter level up to optimized Cosmo variant.

Looks great! Plus those are some very respectable gains in power while cutting pollution output!

GM needs this diesel in the US as a "Fiesta Fighter"!

Re: New Opel Corsa ecoFLEX with only 64mpg and 98g/km CO2

Nah, instead we should get rid of Opel, after all NA doesn't have any trickle down effect in any way shape or form.
The Saturn Aura XR I'm driving has nothing at all in common, save for tire valve stem caps.

Also Opels are very ugly and never improve upon their old technology.
/sarcasm.

Most of all, I like Opel because it stops annoying people on GMIN from saying " OH MAN THAT WOULD BE AWESOME WITH A PUSHROD V8!"

So someone remind me once again why the Spark is being developed rather than adopting the Corsa for the NA market?

Because that would be too easy and also Americans do not want to become European. Bringing a European vehicle to North America scares some folks.

Re: New Opel Corsa ecoFLEX with only 64mpg and 98g/km CO2

GM could really use this car in the U.S. but emission laws will keep that from happening, and it makes no sense to me, if they are so worried about CO2 why not let vehicles like this (small 1.3L engine and under 100 g/km) have an exemption?

They could be required to meet the still very strict Euro rules and how many years have diesels dominated European roads?

Don't buy that NOx/particulates pollution are going to be a problem, since even at 64 MPG there will not be 10 million of them on the road anytime soon and even if GM sold 100,000 a year at such a low CO2 number (and NOx/particulate levels) it would take years to have any impact (if any at all) and by then better Diesel technology and/or alternate powertrains will replace it.

I just wonder how many cars like this would it take to match the particulate output of one old smokey 18 wheeler?
