Latest on the Saab 9-3 MCE

Latest on the Saab 9-3 MCE

www.gminsidenews.com
www.trollhattansaab.net

Posted over at Trollhattan Saab, the photo shown above is of the Saab 9-3 SportCombi undergoing cold weather testing. As you can see, design cues are being taken from the Aero X for the 9-3. This is just the beginning of the style revolution happening at Saab. Expect more Aero X style in future 9-3 generations and as new Saab models debut. After all, this is just an MCE of an existing design that predated the Aero X concept, there is only so much you can do. Since this photo was taken, photoshop designs have surfaced on Trollhattan that provide a better indication of what the 9-3 will look like behind the snow and camoflauge. Rumored features to come in the the redesign include LED headlights and AWD. A redesign in the interior is not expected; that'll have to wait until EPII. Expect the 9-3 to debut sometime in 2007 at either Geneva or Frankfurt. Stay tuned to GMI for autoshow coverage and Trollhattan Saab for all the latest developments on this new vehicle.

Check out the latest photos and the photoshop at this link to Trollhattan:

The 9-3 now looks frumpy. Not at all athletic or stylish.

And it does look frumpy. The new "Aero X" grille doesn't fit.

Re: Latest on the Saab 9-3 MCE

I love the look of the present gen. 9-3, I only wish it were longer. Backseat legroom is a joke. If it weren't for that there would be a Sportcombi in my driveway right now

I don't think it fits just right, but then again this is a spy pic and it's not in full regalia.

Regardless though, it doesn't exactly have the full Aero-X treatment as of yet --- I suspect that we're gonna see that in earnest when the new 9-3 arrives if not before when the next 9-5 arrives.

That's just my opinion though.

Re: Latest on the Saab 9-3 MCE

Evolution not revolution. Would be better if the snow bank was removed from the front plate down and you could see the full front end.

The rims do nothing to portray a sporty look, but it is a mule not a production car.

No complaints from this 9-3 owner.

yea, mgescuro is always overly critical. but its a nice counter-argument to some of the bobbleheads (though beloved) on this site. he is also always one of the more interesting debaters. it wouldn't be the same without him.

it doesn't fit because it creates a huge overhang. the aero-x is more flat-faced and a lesser overhang. almost has a CSV effect of tacking on a face that doesn't belong to an old body.

EDIT: the overhang from the front angle actually seems to be a bit of a illusion with the big center grille. i think that the main problem now is the application of the wide aero-x face to a narrow body. doesnt translate well
