Re: Germany Could Agree To GM Retaining Opel

My guess is that GM gets to keep Opel is because the least amount of jobs will be lost that way.

Re: Germany Could Agree To GM Retaining Opel

I'd like to see GM keep Opel if they can restructure it properly and make it profitable, not just short term but long term. Opel has some really nice cars now so it would be great to see how they do.

Re: Germany Could Agree To GM Retaining Opel

I've never seen so many positive remarks about keeping a company that hasn't made any money for GM for years!!

I'm not crazy about GM keeping it. GM has a way of ruining what it touches. But there are no better options.

OK, now resurrect Pontiac.

Re: Germany Could Agree To GM Retaining Opel

Let's also keep in mind that with the election now passed Merkel has less of an incentive to keep all of those German Opel employees happy and on her side for the election.

As many of stated, I think this is going back to GM where it should have stayed all along.

Re: Germany Could Agree To GM Retaining Opel

My two cents. I enthusiastically join in with those who think GM keeping Opel is better than selling it off. While unit sales alone aren't to anyone's satisfaction, Opel is forward thinking, a key contributor to the GM organization and integral at numerous levels. Maybe the split will still happen, but to me it seems tantamount to amputating one of your own limbs. You might survive that kind of surgery, but at what cost.

BREAKING NEWS: GM has announced that it will keep Vauxhall Opel.

See: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8341485.stm

I wonder how the German Government will react?
