Opel Insignia Wins Car Of The Year By A Nose Badge

Mark Appleton - Automotive News Europe - November 17, 2008

In what are troubled times for Opel and its General Motors parent company comes a rare but welcome bright spot: The Opel/Vauxhall Insignia has been voted European Car of the Year 2009.

A jury of 59 journalists, representing 23 European countries, picks the car of the year.

The top three cars were:

* Opel/Vauxhall Insignia: 321 points

* Ford Fiesta: 320 points

* Volkswagen Golf: 223 points

Not possible
GM does not build cars people want to buy!

I'm having a sarcastic day.

I new it had to be either the Insignia or Fiesta. They really move the bar in their segment.

So GM builds the Aura, Insignia, G6, Malibu, 9-3, what else ?
Why does GM keep diluting their diminishing resources building endless mid-size cars ???
Just build one great mid-size !
US Senator Richard Shelby called GM a dinosaur.
He's right...

No he is not right. Such attitudes are expressed by people who do not pay attention to the nitty gritty in the auto industry, and do not understand the gravity of their office.
I have no respect for senators who bad mouth American industry, exports or jobs. When you hold high office, your words carry weight with consequences. You should be careful what you say.

Wow, great news for GM. This is a nice boost to the folks in Russelheim and Luton.

This makes me hopeful that we'll this car here as the "Buick Regal" since having it as a Saturn won't happen.

Not if the lefties get their way.
The German Commu...err...Left Party, doesn't oppose a bailout for Opel as long as Opel is wrested from GM and placed in German control.
