Re: China's BAIC To Get Opel?

Crazy - minimally, since China will not let a foreign company have over a 49% share of a Chinese company the same restriction should be placed against them. I'm with Dr
Show Me - it is insane to give them the technology to make them competitive today. It's like Walmart renting the building next store to Target - bad business.

Plus I don't trust the Chinese - they will make their cars appear competitive, do well in crash tests, etc - but they will make the radio buttons out of lead, your steering wheel out of some kind of poisonous material, etc to save a buck. No sir - I don't trust anything from China and go out of my way and spend extra $$ to not buy product from that country. Often I have no choice though....

Re: China's BAIC To Get Opel?

Considering the Chinese government is our banker, what difference does it make if a Chinese company buys Opel? GM is bankrupt and will take the best offer it can get, or the what ever offer the US government tells them to take

GM and Magna hope to settle by July7.

Only a few issues left to work out. These other bids are just backups and to put pressure on Magna to resolve issues that are left.

what about the Indians? I guess Tata regrets its bid for Jaguar/Land Rover and of Opel was sold earlier, they could had jumped on the Opel bid

Re: China's BAIC To Get Opel?

It makes no sense to me to give away or sell on the cheap our technology to a company where the (country) norm is theft of intellectual property, slave wages, unfair trade, use of substandard materials and few freedoms for their people. While our country has made mistakes, oppression of its people isn't one of them.

Who put lead in toys?
Chinese or Russians?

Who steals designs from other companies?
Chinese or Russians?

Im sorry, but I trust the Russians more. I dont know why everyone makes out Russia to be this bad country. I never heard of Russian human issues post Cold War.

Plus as far as I know, Russia doesnt want to have their cars being sold worldwide. Theyre too focused on their own market.

Russia is more interested in domination of the former soviet union and those who use their natural resources. World domination is off the agenda for a long time.

Hasn't GM already announced its intention to build the Volt (or a permutation) in China at some point in the future? If that is correct, GM will have already let the cat out of the bag, since the plant will undoubtably have to be a joint venture to satisfy the Chinese government.

true that....

however would it not be interesting if in the end if one of the companies purchasing a GM division like Saturn, Saab, Opal, Hummer ended up beling like ATT and reassembling GM back.... Imagine Opal purchasing Chevy, Caddy, Buick, GMC?

Re: China's BAIC To Get Opel?

Russia appears these days to have a large criminal element controlling a lot of things. That is one reason you don't hear of human issues.
Mexico accounts for 9% of counterfeits in the US but no one mentions them.
I too feel that Chinese investment should be capped at 49%. If they set up a business from scratch in the US (or Australia for that matter) then they can be 100% Chinese owned. This is the same as they have there where it is possible to set up what are called Wofees -Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises. I have a few friends who own such businesses there but they are not admittedly on the scale of car manufacture.

Don't be too sure of this. The Kremlin still has a fond memory for the old times. Vlad the Lad still controls Russian even with Medvedev in the driving seat.

Are you serious about this post? Chinese Gov't is our banker or we are holding them by the bolls to buy our debt?
China is in a bad place. They cannot afford to loose control over their masses.

If Poverty hits China, the commies go down. They Need us to do well to maintain their growth....hey cannot turn back the clock to force the masses back into the 1960's cultural revolution. Too Many rich people and too many people with upward mobility. This my friend is China's problem. As long as economic growth remains, the masses are satisfied with the political status quo, it stops and the masses will demand better management from the top... The top is not you liberal or right wing western politician cheating on his wife.. the top is made up of good old commies...

For that to happen, The US $$ has to remain strong. And China'sd economy is tiny compared to ours, or even EU's...

China is the proverbial paper tiger, It has massive internal problems.

True, Vlad is the man in charge. I think he is more interested in power consolidation than expansion at this point.
