2008 Opel Agila revealed

The Agila is based on the Suzuki Splash, also debuting at Frankfurt

Quote:
Opel has released images of its new Agila minicar, which is set to debut in Frankfurt this September. Replacing its slow selling Wagon R+ based predeccessor, the Agila will be based on its Suzuki Splash cousin (twin might be right). The Agila has grown in every dimension, thanks to the new platform it rides on. The design isn't groundbreaking, but that's enough for the consumers they're targeting.

The Agila will be available in three different powertrain choices at launch: 1.0L 56hp petrol, 1.2L 86hp petrol, and a 1.3L 75hp turbodiesel. The Agila will go on sale next spring in Europe.

Wouldn't take much to turn that into a Beat / Trax / Groove.

I like this Agila.

My thoughts exactly, the three designs shown by GM appear to be from the same drawing board.

As a GM fan and a lover of small cars, it appears I will need to move to Europe to get the cars I crave from GM. Sad.

That nose is exactly the kind of styling required to change the minds of many North Americans who are not Gen-Y'ers but really only need a cost effective city car.

Sophisticated yet cute. Well done.

I would venture a guess that if you dig enough you would find that the trio are exactly that. Instant import for GMNA was the plan all along.imo

Those where the first things I thought of when I saw this. If GM is truly trying to make all of its cars global then this shouldn't be too difficult to bring to NA. It would also be the only car of its kind in the segment with the distribution of GM behind it.

Can't wait to see the Suzuki Splash to compare the two and see if GM made better strides in making it look different to its counterpart. I noticed in the high rez pictures, other then haveing an interior heavily Suzuki influnced(using Suzuki parts) the exterior shows the black dot on the handle indicating this vehicle will come with the available intelligent key employed on other Suzuki models, like the Grand Vitara and SX4 here in the states or the Swift in Europe. A great feature especially in price range!

As others mention I definatly see a "Beat"look to this....but wasn't it confirmed if built the beat wouls be fully done by GMDAT and used the shortend delta and not a Suzuki platform?

Re: 2008 Opel Agila revealed

I think it looks great --- very nicely done.

As much as I'd like to see this in North America -- I doubt very much that we'll get this sub-b-segment vehicle here in the US. The reason? This vehicle is still built with Suzuki -- not with GMDAT (as far as I know, they are still hashing out Gamma in South Korea -- which will support the next B-segment and sub-B-segment city cars) which means it will probably be built only in Europe and will cost way to much to import to the United States. If it was a vehicle that was shared with GMDAT, then I could possibly see them making it in South Korea (next to the Matiz/Spark) and shipping it Stateside.

But if Europe is the only place in which it could be sourced, I seriously doubt it will come our way.

Just my opinion of course.

Throw a Saturn badge on it and call it done - Instant boost to GM's gas mileage rating.
Does anyone know if this will be built in the Gliwice plant?

Re: 2008 Opel Agila revealed

My first thought was: "what the hell is an Agila?".

Now I realize it would be the perfect Chevy Aveo....but that size class is price sensitive and will likely be GMDAT forever. I would like everyone in GM to consider the 1.3L Diesel for the new Aveo, however.
