Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
I love the CTS-V front bumper cap. The more horizontal grill looks better to me than the tall vertical one on the regular CTS. I also expect a hood with a nice angular power bulge to package the supercharger, a-la the STS-V.
It's cool that it will (allegedly) have a regular production engine. I like the LS7, but the fact that it had to be hand built kind of killed the "power for the everyman" that is the Chevy smallblock hallmark. It's crazy to think that the difference in regular production vs. hand building will potentially cost the engine 100-200 HP though. Or maybe that's intentional tuning to get it on the market without dismal milage and/or a gas guzzler tax (though if a manual G8 GT V8 can't squeak past with 361 HP, how would a bigger engine with a SC do so on a heavier car?). Dealers here said the gas guzzler tax made the last CTS-V hard to move off lots. My guess is this engine will be the same one going into the top Camaro SS (or whatever they decide to call it) a year or two after the regular model goes on the market. This bodes well for having that car available for less than the $50,000+ it would have cost had it had the hand built ZR1 engine. So much (for now anyway) for all those people predicting a 700 HP CTS-V. |

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
That front does not even follow with the new design so I think it is to throw people off. My question is for those of us that want more power but not 500+ with modern fuel prices why can't GM turbo the DI engine and give us a 360HP CTS Sport. I think it would sell quite well for around 45K base and that way they can sell the CTS-V for 50K base.

I wonder if the smiles those drivers have on (look at the 1280 versions of the pics) are for real or photochopped?? Looks like they are having fun!!
Now build a coupe too (supposedly on the way according to UAW contract leak)!!! |

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
If they made a sport CTS then they could charge more then $50,000 for the CTS V but I think that the price limits for this new CTS is going to be in the upper $50,000 region.
Given that the out going model has a base price of $52,000 and the fact that the new CTS is what $2,000 more then the out going model that a $54,000 base wouldnt be too far off the mark. Also considering the upgrade we are getting in performance, look, interior, features it would be worth the cost. Deppending on what engine is in the CTS V I can see it starting at as much as $59,000 which would bring it in aroudn the expected price for the new BMW M3 and some $20,000 cheaper then the BMW M5. I really like this new CTS V, its under stated except where it counts (wide wheels and very flared fenders alogn with a bigger mouth for breathing and what looks to be a buldge on the hood to fit that supercharger). When your vehicle gets this good and has this much appeal the gas guzzler tax ends up having less of an effect on its sales. |

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
There's still that horrible looking jack-o-lantern fasica. I really hope that changes for production becuase that just looks nasty for a 60K car. And this time around do something about the rear so that it dosent look like the rear of a base CTS this time around.

I want one so bad. I really need a four door Corvette now that I have kids and the CTS-V might just fit the bill!

I hope it doesn't have that mesh grill. It looks like a chain link fence or something like that.

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
CTS or Vette?
hmmm, idk. Z06/ZL1 or CTS-V? idk...tough! I like this, hope it comes in at like 55-60k and a Ultra V8 is added option at the MCE to properly take on 550i with appro. features/upgrades, etc. CobaltSScrazy argh, just wrote a 16 page paper for Nursing at University of Michigan, and now I have class in 2 hrs, uhhhhh. later/night guys.

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
There are more and more rumors about 525 hp
..i hope there will be much more. Maybe rumors on engine Hp is deliberetly small so they can "suprised" us with some beast with much more power. |

The word "Sport" attached to any car is an ugly appendage, and people should stop suggesting it. It reeks of a half-baked mid-cycle effort to gin up more sales, and I wonder sometimes if it ever even works. I hate these endless, mindless piddling "variants" of models. GM should not be focusing on that. All money should be spent on existing models making them better than the competition--rather than an extra 5hp, chrome exhaust tips, a new paint color and a "Sport" moniker.

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
I do not like that front grille on the V.....I like the base Gille so much more.
It's tiny on the V...I hope that it's not the true grille design that they will use.

Re: Spy photos of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V
Now I have mixed feelings about the engine. Originally when it was rumoured to be the same engine as the ZR1, with around 600hp, I planned on a price tag of about $75k.
If the speculation about the LSA is true, it will be a much less powerful car, but should have a price tag around $55k. The question is, what is this car supposed to compete with? If it supposed to compete with the upcoming twin turbo M5, and the Audi RS6, it better pack the ZR1 motor with 600+ hp, and a $75k price tag will still be reasonable. If it plans to compete with just the M3, IS-F, and S4, then a 500+hp LSA motor and a $55k price tag is fine. Maybe they should sell two versions with both motors, like Audi does with the S4 and RS4, S6 and RS6, etc. |
