U Spy 2017 Cadillac XT5 Crossover Prototype. Carscoops

A camouflaged tester for Cadillac's upcoming XT5 crossover has been caught stalking US roads by a sharp-eyed Carscoops reader.
Comparing these photos shot by Brett Borgard with the undisguised 2017 Cadillac XT5 that was nabbed during a photoshoot in Manhattan, New York, a few months ago, we're pretty sure that they're one and the same.
Their proportions are identical, as are many details - despite being obstructed by the heavy camo, such as the sharp mirrors positioned on the door, the window line, the low profile roof bars, and the shark fin antenna.
And if for whatever reason you remain skeptical, it has the same kind of cladding and wraps as an older Cadillac tester we spied last year.
The XT5, Cadillac's replacement for the SRX, is the first crossover to use the brand's new nomenclature under which the former get a name that begins from "XT". It's a clean sheet design believed to be based on GM's new front- and all-wheel drive architecture dubbed "C1XX", with power to likely come from an updated 3.6-liter V6 gasoline mill, and possibly, a hybrid unit as well.
I'm sure it'll be nice, but I really like that new RX. Never thought I'd say that. And the new MKX seems quite nice.
My preferences aside, the Cadillac will have its hands full, even though I doubt the Lincoln will sell anything like it. But Lexus is THE car of the three.
The new RX is indeed nice, But I'm sure the Cadillac will have better deiving dynamics, a more comfortable ride, and a great interior. Waiting anxiously for the comparison. I need to test drive the MKX, but it still isn't available here.
Take two Aspirin and see your Doctor in the morning. Then again maybe you like it because it's actually very attractive. The camo pictures show off the stance much better than the undisguised pictures. In decent official pictures I think it will look pretty sleek. We should see the real thing in a couple of months.
It's not exciting, but it looks nice enough. I suspect the interior and tech will go a long way toward determining how well it does in that market. As others said, the competition will be stiff.
So headlights have gone from being the main focus, to being as small as is legally allowed to give adequate light output. Talk about being deemphasized.
I'll wait to see it in person. in pictures, there's too much empty real estate below the grill. Makes the front end look pretty bad to me. I like the rear though, and I'm sure the interior will be nice. So long as women still love it, I'll keep paying my bills with SRX/XT5 commissions.
I'm not a fan. Like many new Arts & Science vehicles, they toned down the edginess. The current SRX, with its many angles and flamboyant fins, looks excellent. The XT5 loses that edge.

All I can say is this should seriously expand Cadillac sales in a positive direction. If I owned a current SRX I would be waiting with salivation right now.. If I owned any of those ugly foreign competitors, especially the Lexus RX... I'd be planning a trip to Carmax right now to unload that TRASH.. buy a bus pass for a few months and get an XT5 when it arrived. Gorgeous.. and more upscale than the Q5 or ML (or whatever its called)
My mother who owns the current SRX saw this yesterday after I showed her and she instantly started calling our Caddy dealership to find outr about trading before I told her it wasn't out yet.
Side Bar:
The only "sporty " CUV that exists and has been successful really is the X5. RWD in a CUV is simply not a prerequisite for a desirable CUV tho. The X5, is for all intent, the only thing going at BMW in terms of a roomier SUV until the X7 arrives. The X3, X6, and now, X1 are all smallish internally. The X5's success has been mostly to do with that. The other RWD "sport" CUV would be the Infiniti QX70 (FX). This is a continuous failure, yet when the QX60 (JX) Infiniti saw a surge in CUV sales. It outsells the FX by about 10:1.
Why??
Because every buyer doesn't care about cornering in a literal Tall Wagon as a primary reason for purchase of these things. These are pretty much luxurious minivans in a small, med, large SUV-looking package to dispel the perception that "Stacey's Mom" is driving a minivan.
XT5 will do splendid I think. What Cadillac should do is debut the new XT5 at the same time as the XT3 (based on ATS) , and XT7 (Based on CT6). Those two could be a smidgen lower to the ground styling... like a RR Sport, with the enthusiastic driving attributes.
Considering the current SRX accounts for 40% of Cadillac's sales, they had best get this right.
