DT7 sounds like a cleaning product.

Thanks JLM

It is good to know that Cadillac has their thinking caps on. I am a vintage Cadillac guy but I love the XLR.

Re: Meet Your 2009 Cadillac Lineup

Just read the article below on Leftlane and of course the first thing that came to mind was how perfect of a fit this technology would be for Cadillac. Cadillac needs to be careful not to concentrate on becoming sporty so much that they forget that their loyal customers really actually want a "Cadillac ride" more than anything. The DT7 NEEDS a suspension that will do the Cadillac name justice, and something like this "Pre-Scan" is exactly the type of thing that will sell DT7s and keep the saying "rides like a Cadillac" alive and well.

Mercedes-Benz Pre-Scan: a ride on the magic carpet

"Futuristic laser beams scanning the road to give a car an immensely supple yet perfectly responsive ride sounds like science fiction. It isn’t. After riding in one of Mercedes-Benz’s Pre-Scan prototypes in Spain recently, I can confirm that the Pre-Scan system works and, if it doesn’t achieve Benz’s goal of halving the impact of bumps in the cabin, it would go very, very close.

Dubbed the “Magic Carpet Ride” by Benz engineers, the system will find its way into luxury Benzes inside two years, according to senior company officials.

The constantly scans the road one to seven metres in front of the car via infra-red laser beams, then tells the suspension to relax or brace itself for whatever it sees coming.

Officially, the sensors are LIDAR, for Light Detecting and Ranging and has been carried across from military hardware.

The real beauty of the system is that it can plug straight into Benz’s existing Active Body Control suspensions, currently standard on the S- and CL class luxury models.

The computer controlling the suspension will read the Pre-Scan data and compare it with the information coming from the steering, accelerator, brake and g-sensors to come up with a beautifully compliant ride.

Corner harder in a Pre-Scan car and it shows up as a suspension system with hardly any body roll and with hardly any bumps in the cabin, either.

Over stiff, sharp bumps, such as speed bumps, the system destroys at least half of the shock before it ever reaches the cabin. It dissipates noise just as effectively, too.

The system weighs only 1.5kg per unit – so 3kg across the car – but it will necessitate a new style of headlight. And, on Benz’s F700, that meant maximum ugly.

Its only real limitation is top speed. The system switches off over 100 mph, because it cannot scan far enough ahead of the car for the suspension to cushion the blows in time.

But, for the U.S. market, that’s hardly going to present a problem."

Well, Cadillac's Magnetic Ride Control already does most of this and has been available or standard on XLR, SRX, and STS for a few years now. The main difference is it's based on input from the suspension and steering itself instead of "pre scanning" -- so you feel the first of a series of bumps, but not the later ones. I would think GM/Delphi could add "pre scanners" to MRC as well, unless there are patent issues.

Sorry, but no Cadillac rides like an MB S Class. The Magnetic Ride Control is actually firmer than the base suspension on the DTS.

Depends on what you want. Cushy ride without feeling like a sponge cake -- sure an S or LS does that better than any Cadillac. But Cadillac doesn't have anything in that market segment anyway.

MRC isn't meant to be softer than the base suspension (certainly not on a DTS!) -- it is supposed to be firmer, especially at higher speeds.

Wow great pictures! I can definitely smell the leather and feel the wood grain, great work Cadillac, unlike your cousin Chevrolet, no strange names added to the lineup just classic, luxurious style vehicles with HP.

Re: Meet Your 2009 Cadillac Lineup

I just drove home an STS rental car , i reserved a Tahoe and they tried to give me an Explorer. I guess they thought i wouldnt mind , so i got a Caddy to be on the safe side .

I have always wanted to drive the STS , and after a few hundred miles i want one. I think i would get the AWD V with a clutch , if you can get it . I cant wait to see the next generation of this car . I always stop and drool when i see a new CTS.

The CTS V will be sweet , but for that much coin i think i need a Big Car.

I hope we see a new STS V with a clutch and AWD. Maybe then i wont have to buy an S8 Quattro .
