So Cooper was paid by BMW now? Why did they award 1st place to him?

You are looking for straw. The BMW was beaten by GM designated drivers. Lutz was there for the fun of it.

It says pro participants will go up against GM pros. That implies that privateers don't compete against GM pro drivers, otherwise it would say 'all participants will go up against GM pros'.

In any case, the ref of the event doesn't share your interpretation of the rules.

Re: Insideline: Cadillac CTS-V Challenge: BMW Kinda Won

It didn't take long for the hair splitting to begin. I don't think young Cooper will be bragging to his friends how he gave Lutz a knee to the groin in the Challenge. Lutz was the winner before he even took his first lap.

Re: Insideline: Cadillac CTS-V Challenge: BMW Kinda Won

I can see the BMW/Import lovin' press is behaving just like I thought they would if the big Caddy won, like asses in other words. Caddy will never win the approval of these folks nor the idiot carbuyers who swear by 'em.

Congrats to the CTS. This was one for the hometeam!

There was no single pro GM driver at the event. BMW was whacked. You are confusing Pro with drivers with track expirience. If Jan Magnussen or Ron Fellows was there, this would have been a very different ball game for your BMW Bwoy champ Mr. Baloo

Re: Insideline: Cadillac CTS-V Challenge: BMW Kinda Won

I like the CTS-V better than the M3. However the amount of spin already present in some previous posts gives be a bad taste about this whole affair.

I see a CTS-V had the best time: 2:45:537, while the M3 had a very good time of 2:50:424 (while being 2.2 liters and 142 hp weaker). For me this doesn't say anything except that both are very good performance machines.

Why can't people understand this? These are all great cars. But, in the eyes of anti-GM crowd, the CTS-V sucks because it didn't win by 30 seconds. I'd take any of the cars in the challenge and be happy. I'd just be happier if I had the CTS-V.

I like this Michael Cooper kid. It's obvious that he appreciates a good car, regardless of the emblem on the hood. He's had some formal training, has track experience (with a Z06), and did his homework. And....he praised the Caddy. Here is his take on the experience (He goes by The///Mthree):

Quote:
I am he, Its been a long day. I will post up about my experiences later or tomorrow

But I will say this right off the bat, anybody that thinks the m3 should beat any time the ctsv can do on that track doesnt know anything. I got to do 2 laps in the CTSV at the end of the day and was extremely impressed.

Updated with later post:

So here is my take on it guys:

I was hoping for rain all week because I figured Lutz would have some confidence issues in the rain. We got to the track and it was misting so got me going a little. I never expected to be able to beat Lutz in the ctsv, knowing the the ctsv was capable of. I haven't been on the track since july, but that didn't seem to effect me. In the first practice I didn't take that many laps, Maybe 5-6 hot laps. I was able to do this because I watched a lot of video before going to the track. I then just watched what braking points people like John Heinricy were using going into turn 1 because thats the only spot I seemed to have trouble. Then the challenge came around, On my out lap I just checked out where the wet spots were and then came the laps. My first hot lap was pretty good, but as I went through I knew a few spots that I could pickup time on the 2nd lap. I did just that picking up what I think was a full second on the 2nd hot lap, I would have liked to get a 3rd lap in but the brakes had checked out.

My impressions of the CTSV:

I got to drive the CTSV with two other people in the car, an added 300 lbs. I pulled out of the pits and was impressed by the power. Then coming out of turn 1 in 2nd gear I was really impressed by the power since in my car I had to use third and the M lacks in torque and overall grunt to be honest. I come up to a few turns after that and then go down the back straight and was VERY impressed by the brakes, they inspired a lot of confidence and as a driver thats what you want. Every second of the two laps I got in the car impressed me the brakes and the power mostly, the handling was right their with that of the M3. I would love to get some timed laps in the CTSV at Monticello Motor Club.
http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthr...=316798&page=3 . He posts more later in the thread and feels that the V is the faster car. I'll take his word for it over some of the knuckleheads over here that never have and never will drive either of these cars (myself included).

Re: Insideline: Cadillac CTS-V Challenge: BMW Kinda Won

For everyone who has ever doubted that BMW produces the greatest drivers cars, this is point and case. While on paper it may not always seem like it, the BMW 3-series/M3 are undeniably the perfect balance of performance, comfort, practicality, and sacrifices little. I would challenge someone to find a better drivers car than the M3. It has proven competitive against cars outside it's class, exceeding in price, and by the numbers, seemingly outmatched. Cadillac has a great thing going with the CTS and the CTS-V, but it is keeping company with two different classes that both have stellar contenders. While a bargain next to the M5, it has the M3 at its heels. While some would say that was smart on GM's part, they are not building a range of competitors to the Europeans. Sure, they are coming out with a car to take on the 3-series/A4/S4/G37, which will be good, I am not sold. Maybe if they focused from the base model up instead of hoping all will be forgiven by offering one expensive variant, they could turn around perception.

How does a lap time prove anything other then how fast it can run around that track with that driver?

I wonder how many buyers of these cars explore all that power and ability with any regularity?
