Love my '71 Eldorado Convertible--pure Cadillac luxury with the 500 cubic inch V-8 at its maximum horsepower. Distinctive features with panache galore! These large '70's Cadillacs are starting to get the appreciation they deserve.

Forgot how big they were and the 500 CID engine is massive, amazing that they were FWD.
Excellent! What kind of work is he planning to do? Any chance he can post an online photo album with updates?

Actually, the engine in the 1970 Eldorado produced almost twice the HP the '71 engine did .400 vs. 215 I think.

My Dad bought a black on black 1966 Toronado in 1970. That thing was a torque monster. White tire smoke billowing out from under the hood and front fenders was crazy back then.

For '71, the horsepower was unchanged--only how it was measured changed. In the catalog, the '71 is listed as 365 hp vs. the '70 as 400 in its catalog, but the measure had changed to the more standard SAE [Society of Automotive Engineers] methods, and each subsequent year the added pollution control measures kept chipping away at the horsepower to the '75 & '76 models being the lowest of the convertible series. Although it looked smaller, the '70 Eldorado was within one inch of the size of the '71, and its wheelbase much smaller. However, for '71 the bloated, long, low appearance was the new design language. (I love the 1970 model design, but wanted a convertible as a collector vehicle.)

1970 Cadillac De Ville was the sole convertible model. The De Ville was unfortunately discontinued in 1971, and only the new Eldorado Convertible was available as a Cadillac drop top.

And with racing provenance to boot! Remember, that behind a Ferrari Daytona driven in part by a professional race driver in the first Cannonball run, was a Cadillac Sedan de Ville, and only 9 minutes behind at that.

The proportions of these cars is what your luxury car should look like.

    We had a 76 Eldo. I never liked the 72s. I do like the 69 & 70, though.
    85 cars since 1975....

The 71-72 Eldorado were a bit too.... Baroque. "Post Modern" really, borrowing a hell of a lot from the early 50's. This generation of Eldorado lasted longer than most. Model year 1971-1978. In production almost 9 years, all having the same doors and windshield/cowl. All other sheet metal saw at least one change over that time.

The tenth generation Eldorado was in production for 10 years, 1992-2002, with minimal changes.

Would love to get my hands on a 74 DeVille sedan, it would compliment my 73 Caprice Classic Convertible nicely. Converting it to right hand drive would be interesting. Buick Electra from the same era would be a nice alternative.

Looked @ this today, had to pass; EXC cosmetics, highly questionable mechanics.

And total dud and styling disaster. It had none of the presence or panache of the stiletto styled Seville STS. Seriously left me cold and nobody wanted to like it more than I did.

I may be getting a 97 Eldorado Coupe. Silvery green color with matching interior. 65K miles. If I do I'll post pics.

I see these 70's vintage Caddys go across the block on Thursdays at Mecum going for well under $10K.
Every time I think "That's a pretty darn cool car for $7K".
