Re: First Mercedes, now Jaguar pulls out of Lutz CTS-V Challenge

I'm truly disappointed Jaguar pulled out with its XFR. I drove it and thought it was a fine vehicle..

Not as cool or as fast as the CTS V but I didnt think it couldn't pull 5 laps at speed.

thats just about the worst PR statement I have ever heard.

that guy should be fired.

Lutz on the other hand deserves two thumbs up.

Re: First Mercedes, now Jaguar pulls out of Lutz CTS-V Challenge

I wonder if Lutz is going to milk this for all its worth. "So frightened, they wouldn't even come out and play."

Pathetic.

Re: First Mercedes, now Jaguar pulls out of Lutz CTS-V Challenge

DAMN! If there was ever a car that came close to the CTS-V isn power and price, it was the XF-R. Shame really...
I dont understand why the car's brakes would be a problem? They are pretty massive from the last time I looked at them, and Jag added extra large holes in the front facia for better cooling...
Pretty lame guys. Maybe its cause Tata is loosing too much money, they dont want to go racing and lose face.

Re: First Mercedes, now Jaguar pulls out of Lutz CTS-V Challenge

They've realized they are spending their budget and risking crashing a very expensive vehicle in a PR disaster in a promotional event for GM. I am surprised any manufacturer was actually willing to supply a vehicle. Or maybe it's just a fake and Jalopnik is hoping Jaguar won't even feel moved enough to sue...

Embarrassing for Jaguar.

They would've been better off not saying anything at all.

So much for Jaguar having a performance version...I guess R stands for "Run away"

Someone chickened out...

Ha, ha! What an absolute embarrassment for Jaguar and Mercedes. So much for "superior design." Hanging their heads in shame...Could even race an almost 80-year-old guy!!!

LUTZ: PLEASE PUT THIS IN YOUR NEXT SET OF COMMERCIALS!!! PLEASE!!! :-)

Ummm... On paper, XFR doesn't match up in almost every number....

It's obvious that no car in this class would outrun the CTS-V.

A more interesting comparison would have been the Audi RS6 with the V10 BiTurbo. It actually has more HP than the CTS-V.

Re: First Mercedes, now Jaguar pulls out of Lutz CTS-V Challenge

If a sports car's brakes can't handle five laps, I gotta say--someone should be fired. Probably several someones. That's really, REALLY pathetic.

Way to fail, Jaguar. Way to fail.

Yeah, but don't you think the R should at least get you the ability to drive it aggressively over a period of time on a private track?

It's sort of like a high end watch, we both know I could take a Seamaster well past even its specs, and there's a reason a Speedmaster went to the moon.

Yup. I agree. The XFR should be able to run its paces.
Which does make it puzzling, as XFR was Ring tuned and has made more than its share of runs there.
Also, it did break the land speed record at Bonneville.

So what gives? There's something else behind this move.

But if it's simply because they didn't want to get shown up by the CTS-V, I'd be really disappointed. Because, anyone with eyes can see that the match up -- every match up -- would favor CTS-V.
