Edmunds Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Review

We're stopped in traffic when a clunker of a Corolla slots up on our right and comes to a stop. Odd behavior, really, as that lane has a green arrow, while our 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon is waiting at a red.

A horn blares and we look ahead. Still red. Shrug. Beeeep. Still red. Shrug. Beeeeeeeep. Our right window is still full of off-white Corolla, and we take note of the passenger, a kid of maybe 17. The driver is his girlfriend or his big sister, and either way he's reaching over and holding down the horn with his left hand and she doesn't stop him. Suddenly he's giving us the thumbs-down and orders his chauffeur down the ramp and onto the highway.

We signal right, kick the 304-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 into gear and rocket the CTS Sport Wagon after them. Not looking for trouble, mind you. It's just that this station wagon, Cadillac's first for North America, has lit a fire under this kid and we want to know why.

Re: Edmunds Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Review

A decidedly mixed review. Seems that in wagon form the CTS' less-than-midsize rear seat is more of an issue.

I wish they offered the manual transmission in the wagon, even if only three people would buy such a car. Just because that's how I'd want one.

The CTS had a rough start in TrueDelta's Car Reliability Survey, but the 2008 has since improved to about average, and the 2009 appears to require few repairs.

Way overpriced, but it is a pretty cool ride. Nice interior as well.

Edmunds: Instead, think of the 2010 Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon as a continuation of a car put on hiatus some 55 years ago. One of Harley Earl's dream cars, it was outlandish, gorgeous and by all measures impractical to all but a very specific audience; it was the 1954 Corvette "Waldorf" Nomad. In the way it combined a gentleman's sports car with a luxury car and even to its funny C-pillar that was wider at the top than at the base, the Nomad was the natural precursor to the CTS Sport Wagon.

So we've got a shot to buy something different — something functional and fun. It's a lifestyle wagon for those who could use a Subaru, but don't want to replace their cashmere sweaters with flannel button-ups. It's a new chapter in an old book and we hope it's one they keep writing.

As for that kid in the Corolla? Good job, Cadillac. It's easy to get thumbs-ups and friendly waves with new cars, but when you make tough kids hate you for no real reason, that's when you know you've arrived.
Couldn't be happier with this statement. If you want utilitarian, go buy the Subie, I won't fault you for it. But this is not meant to be all things to all people. My CTS4 is worth every penny I paid for it. And MKaresh, I am resgistered with you, and must say I have nary a complaint with the car. This car will be in the hunt to replace my existing SRX.

Now give me an AWD V version of it!

I drove a CTS wagon at the recent SRX event in Atlanta. I liked the wagon way better than the SRX or any of the other utes on hand. The cargo area, however, seemed disappointingly small.

Re: Edmunds Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon Review

I saw a CTS wagon last weekend (loved it!). The cargo area, while I thought it was fine, isn't as big as what you may find in a BMW 535xi Wagon. However, BMW is axing that model in favor of that hunchback 5-series GT. Seems like an industry trend to advance looks/design at the expense of utility. See also: X6, ZDX. Not CrossTour though. That retards design.

I attended the SRX event in Philly and had the same reaction as you... The Sport Wagon eclipsed all of the Crossovers/SUV's, including the SRX(Which is also an excellent entry). The only problem I had with driving the CTS Sport Wagon was Cadillac did not provide a 3.6 model to be driven; just 2 3.0's. They did have one 3.6 on display, however.

True, but I actually do like the design of the Wagon, there really isn't another vehicle quite like it on the road.

Maybe GM can rebadge it as a Chevy at a lower price.....Caprice Wagon maybe....wishful thinking.

Now produce the Coupe, then a RWD/AWD 400+hp XTS and a RWD/AWD ATS compact along with the new SRX and Cadillac will have a full line of competitive products to compete with the world's finest

My local Cadillac dealer has red and silver wagons, the silver wagon is absolutely stunning.

Wishful thinking. Its like telling Lexus to rebadge the Lexus GS into a Camry or the Lexus LS into a Toyota Avalon. It will never happen.

Now, if you really need a wagon, you might be able to pick up a saab sportcombi for less than a CTS, but it will still run you upwards of $30K most likely.

Cadillacs should be aspirational vehicles. Based on your comments, it sounds like Cadillac has achieved that with the CTS Wagon.

But Cadillacs should be exclusive to Cadillac and not perverted by slapping a Chevrolet grill on them to sell more to the masses. Once you might be able to purchase one, you'll understand why that should be.
