Those are the correct numbers for the 1989 Supercoupe, which also won. I think the 1987 had 190 horsepower from a 2.3 liter turbo.
On the Malibu vs. the Accord: the criteria for COTY are much different than those for the regular comparison tests. The comparison tests are almost entirely based on what the care is like to drive. COTY also includes significance for the market segment and for the manufacturer, and also places more weight on value. So a car can win COTY and still lose the comparison tests.
