What Caddy DOES need is a full size sedan to compete with the big boys from BMW and Mercedes. If the CTS is a BMW 5 Series at a 3 Series price, the next 'big' Caddy should be a 7 Series at a 5 Series price. Anything less is below what Caddy should be. Yeah, we all know they don't have the money for a proper 7 Series competitor. Update and slightly stretch the STS and drop the DTS. It must be cheaper to do that then a whole new model on a different chassis. Oh well, guess I"ll be holding onto my STS for a loooong time.

Has Cadillac seen the Hyundai Equus? Or does the web not reach michigan? What is Cadillac thinking?

Eventually, yes. But the volume, and proift, in the luxury market is in the "middle". When this market is more secure, then a higher end Cadillac can have a ghost's-chance of succeeding. The S, 7 series, A8, and LS 2008 sales in this country combined were 53,143 (Automotive News Data Center). How many cars could Cadillac hope to sell in that price range against these well established names? Four thousand? Five thousand? And the billions it would take to develop such a car, divided by the number of sales?

All I know, this will basically be a copy of the MKS, and the MKS does sell very well.

No, I think X was just thrown in there because it sounds cool. Just like X was in XLR...didn't stand for anything...
I think it's time we all admit to ourselves that the XTS won't be the super-awesome RWD flagship sedan that we wanted...but it will be a DTS replacement...

Looks like the FWD mushmobiles are getting kicked into high gear! (sarcasm oozing)
I'm already on record as saying that I like the MKS alot...which I do especially with ecoboost. Good stuff. I think autoblog or someone like that said that the new XTS interior reminded them of Vertu in terms of look, feel, use, ect. That's a good thing for Cadillac. Those phones are the creme de la creme of cell phones. I'm cautiously looking forward to it. |

Re: Cadillac XTS to use modified Buick LaCrosse underpinnings
You might be right. If you can't have a world-beating, knock out RWD sedan that will bring attention and credit to your brand, then I guess you have to settle for emulating Lincoln. Quote:
Add this to last years' sales of 12,982, and the MKS has sold a total of 22,048 (including fleet) in the 12-13 months its been on the market. .

Re: Cadillac XTS to use modified Buick LaCrosse underpinnings
The next generation of CTS will likely move upmarket, in size and features, so it won't be competing with the ATS.
I think the DTS is the only GM sedan left with enough room in the rear for me to not mash my head, and it has decent trunkspace. It's like they intentionally push people into SUVs. I wish they'd update the grille on the DTS, but I guess, with 2 years left, that aint' happening. |

Re: Cadillac XTS to use modified Buick LaCrosse underpinnings
No but neither has anyone else. That wasn't the point of what I was trying to say. It came across wrong and I apologize for the confusion. I was being sarcastic because that's how the usual people will perceive it (without driving it of course). Some of the more snooty people. I also said in that post how much I liked the MKS and while I haven't driven it, I don't think it's that mushy to drive from what I've read about it. The LaCrosse CXS is no mushmobile....it drives very smoothly and very controlled for being FWD. The SRX Turbo is the same thing but better. They can do FWD and have it handle pretty good....not like RWD but that's obvious. I don't think the XTS will be a sloppy DTS.

Re: Cadillac XTS to use modified Buick LaCrosse underpinnings
Just saw an MKS commercial yesterday advertising 0% with $1500 cash back. Can't be doing all that well (or maybe it's doing well with those sorts of incentives).
