Cadillac styling won't take sharp turn with flagship CT6.

DETROIT -- Cadillac’s forthcoming CT6 sedan is supposed to be trailblazing for the brand. General Motors product development chief Mark Reuss says it will have “the world’s most advanced body structure.” And its name will commence a top-to-bottom redo of Cadillac’s vehicle-naming setup.

But don’t expect a radical new design direction.

GM global design boss Ed Welburn says the CT6, scheduled for a spring unveiling, will hew to the art and science theme of Cadillac’s existing lineup, which sports angular lines and laserlike vertical head lamps and taillamps.

“It’ll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio,” Welburn said in an interview this month. “But you won’t see a real shift in direction.”

He's trying to temper expectations because he knows that our hopes have been set too high and he senses there will be huge disappointment. What design chief says before an intro like the C6 that he expects more from his design team? Where the h...was he when this design was signed off? Moronic!
Did any words come out of his mouth that the design is outstanding, exciting, awesome, stunning....etc? No. Sounds like another effort like the XTS that he will have to make excuses for. Will the C6 be pretty nice? Of course. But "pretty nice" is about as lame as it gets in the segment it will compete in. "Wait till the C8". Sure.

Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we’re working on for Cadillac,” he said. - Should have a direct influence on both models. Why does the top of the line have to look like the concept?- Im still waiting for the **** 16 to be introduced for 35 grand!

CT6 is absolutely going to be a 7/LS/A8 fighter. I'm not sure what some of you are talking about.

It's almost the same size as them and it'll most likely be priced in the low $70,000 range. Sounds like a 7/LS/A8 fighter to me...

And the CT8 is still a pipe dream at this point. If the CT6 is a sales flop, don't expect them to be tripping all over themselves to bring it to market. That's why you put some attractive styling (Elmiraj in this case) on a car that's very important for your brand and your brand's future. Making it a larger CTS or XTS is stupid.

The waiting and see factor isnt in place here. The new CTS and ATS havent been out that long yet another full restructing is happening. The 5/7 series fighter CT6 is coming as well as a S/Maybach fighter of some sorts.

I think everyone on here is reading to much into the story. This is basic PR stuff that Ed is not going to tell everything too soon.

The CTS is going to be a flagship until an even higher model comes out in 3-4 years. If it is a range topping elite sedan, it means it is a flagship. Cadillac in the future will have several flagships but one model will be a halo model which we may not get before 2020 but beyond that.

If he said this car will be heavily influenced by the Elmiraj, there is no reason not to believe him. Sounds like this car is going to set the standard but I expect more information will be revealed at the technology conference this month.

Okay, let's see what HASN'T been built:

1.) Cien

2.) Sixteen

3.) ULC

4.) Ciel

5.) Elmiraj

And interestingly enough, they would have basically been defining cars for both the brand and the segments they competed in. And in a few cases, the cars would have been the first cars in the segment.

You think the ULC was gorgeous?

Ciel: It was unbuildable anyway. look at photos. It didn't have a top and there was no room for one in the trunk.

Elmiraj: C'mon. You don't know that something like it isn't being planned.

Wow, the guy has gone into Captain Obvious mode...

Not unexpected that the CT6 will be an Art&Science car. The key issues are how well it aligns or surpasses the segment references in amenities/content and in performance, as well as how it carries the Cadillac design language forward. It's not supposed to be a cornerstone car, styling-wise, though future generations might be...

Just hope Cadillac shows the car in full production trim soon.
