The DT7 carries only a few of the Sixteen design cues (such as the low mounted front fender grilles) and the standard Cadillac features like vertical headlights and taillights. The designers found it too difficult to carry over the proportions of the Sixteen on the smaller scale of the DT7. However, the "supersedan" which will follow around 2014 WILL be bigger and will be much more "Sixteen-like" in design and presence.

I have not seen the car. It will be shown likely at the 2010 Detroit NAIAS or at one of the later shows that year. Only speculation right now, though for its debut.

Bummer! I was hoping you could describe it. Bummer too we have to wait SO long to see...to me, that slow of a pace is not wise for Cadillac, they could lose the momentum created by the CTS.

Indeed. I think the problem is Cadillac is taking far too long to come out with the sedans it so really needs. 2012/2013? If we really have to wait until then, I hope Cadillac can at least anticipate how the next-gen S-class/7-series/A8/LS (Let's face it, those WILL be out by then) will be and compete with those, not the current gen.

Yes, it is - again. Built on a stretched version of the DT7, it will show up around a year or so afterwards. It will feature a V8, either a modified Corvette engine or one provided from an outside vendor. Its styling (which isnt done yet) will be much more "Sixteen-like" in character, with longer overhangs than the DT7. It will be an electronics lovers showpiece, with all sorts of safety and luxury gadgets.

The DT7 design, by the way, is now finalized. Engineering work will resume shortly in Australia. Hopefully Brenda Pritty or some other spy photographers will start seeing some traveling around Melbourne in a few months!

Really? There is no other source for a V8 engine for that car?

By the way since you're online now, I might as well ask: Are there more news on the 2010 CTS? Will it have all the features of the STS/5-series/E-class etc?

GM halted development of the Northstar replacement and no "new" V8's are under development right now. The high end motor for future models will be the twin turbo V6 that - as of now - is producing upwards of 435 hp! For competitive reasons, the "supersedan" will offer a V8, but the source for the powerplant is yet to be determined.

The mid-cycle CTS upgrade will now consist of front and rear fascias, new interior trim and electronic gizmoes that are primarily safety related (lane change warning, etc). The lengthened wheelbase that was being developed has been axed until the next generation CTS bows off of the "Zigma" (Zeta + Sigma) platform somewhere around 2014-5.

Re: Cadillac replacing DTS and STS with one vehicle, entry-level model coming

Thanks for the information. I was just thinking that if there were a CTS with the following features:

-heated steering wheel
-Magnetic Ride Control
-Adaptive cruise control
-heated and cooled rear seats
-rearview backup camera
-HUD
-Power headrests
-Active head restraints
-Power folding mirrors (unless it already has it, I don't know)

...I would be very happy. It would be the perfect vehicle for me. You think all of the above will be available?

So this "super sedan" is the S-Class competitor that Cadillac's been toying with seemingly for forever??
I really wouldn't like seeing a modified Corvette engine in there. But it seems to be 5-6 years away, so maybe things will change.
I'm not all enthused about the overhangs as well.

Cool about the DT7. I'll be watching intently...

Diesel development for Cadillac has been stopped. Resources are now devoted only to the V6 and its variants as well as hybrid technologies. It seems that the Hybrid V6 for the DT7 wont be ready for the intro of the vehicle; 3 V6's will be, though. Base and Direct-Injection variants like the CTS and the twin-turbo.
