Cadillac Passes On V-Series Utes

IL Insider: Cadillac Skips Plans for V-Series Utes

Date posted: 03-21-2006

DETROIT — Cadillac is looking at a variety of upgrades and enhancements for its family of luxury utility vehicles, including the recently redesigned Escalade, but there are no plans to offer the sort of performance modifications it now provides as part of its V-Series.

The first Caddy ute to get a modest makeover is the SRX, which shares its underpinnings with the STS and CTS sedans. As part of a midcycle freshening for model-year 2007, Cadillac will offer a new SRX Sport kit in August that is primarily an appearance package, with unique wheels and tires, grille, rocker panels, and front and rear fascia. With 18-inch wheels and tires, the SRX Sport package will cost $2,500; with 20-inch wheels and tires, the package will be $3,500, Cadillac executives told IL.

Sounds like a smart move really. That would be a money spent on something very extravagant, that is needed else wehre, say the next gen mid size cars. Really the only SUV that I'd like to see a V version is the SRX.

Gas prices are expected to start rising again. Wouldn't really make sense to do it now. Use that money in other divisions to build some more economical cars.

That's fine with me. The appearance packages sound slick, especially the "Black Chrome" Escalade.

Re: Cadillac Passes On V-Series Utes

Sometimes a sporty look is all you need to rope in the buyer. That's what the VUE Redline does, it's technically the same car as the VUE V6 just with sweet exterior and interior modifications

I could see an SRX-V drawing some attention. But I agree with Quickening: it's good that GM has decided to spend R&D elsewhere. Hopefully on Cadillacs interiors.

Re: Cadillac Passes On V-Series Utes

Well a 0-60 in under 5 seconds is kind of pointless for an SUV if you ask me so I'm glad to here this. The money could be better spent.

I wanted to see a V-Series Escalade... But I know this was the right decision.

For most buyers it is about the look anyway, probably a smart move.

This is a smart move, the SRX needs a makeover, not a power boost. It's plenty fast for an SUV.

Re: Cadillac Passes On V-Series Utes

Cadillac made a good call. They should save the V badge for real sportscars, and not dumb it down by introducing an Escalade V. Just like how SS lost all meaning over at Chevy after all those s/charged V-6 Impalas that were an absolute joke (as far as real performance at least).

Re: Cadillac Passes On V-Series Utes

I still believe Escalade-V could be a reality, but I understand why it won't be. There would bee too much engineering costs associated with getting the Escalade-V done right to justify it. And the 900 platform simply is too large to compete with the Range Rover Sport and the Cayenne Turbo. The GMT-900 would have to be shortened 6-8" and lightened and lowered. Engine would have to add anotehr 100HP. And the interior would need to be more unique and not generic.

The SRX "Sport" package, to me, seems half-assed. SRX simply needs 30-45 more HP in the base engine. And an interior far better than the plastic slop that is in there now.

Sport Packages are not aimed at people like you.

I like the idea of apperence packages, but I think a Escalade V would be nice though.
