    Cadillac Launches First ELR Commercial

Cadillac remembers what American Luxury really is

    February 7, 2014
    By: Nick Saporito

Today Cadillac has released the first commercial for the 2014 ELR electric coupe. The commercial appears to be a fresh take on the brand's advertising, include a subtle dig at Europe with a reminder of what it means to be successful in America.

The ad outlines the hedonic meaning behind American success and mocks how other countries take a whole month off of August. While Europe is not specifically mentioned in the spot, as a general rule European nations have some of the longest government mandated vacation times. It essentially idolizes the American way to success and rattles off examples of famous people who exemplified what Cadillac is attempting to convey.

Towards the end of the ad, the new ELR is showcased - complete with being plugged into the ultra modern home depicted in the scene.

Brilliant! I seriously can see the ELR's monthly sales surging from 41 to 44 as a result of this ad.

Typically I despise most of GM's commercials but I really like the confident American brashness in this attempt. Well done!

I'd prefer less talk, more car. Plus he's wrong....the U.S. has announced no concrete plans to return to the Moon vs. China's and Russia's very ambitious plans.

Bravo Cadillac...Bravo! I actually like this commercial, its similar to the Imported from Detroit commercials but not as dark and grainy.

Re: Cadillac Launches First ELR Commercial

Interesting twist. The way it started made me think that it was going to be a whimsical commercial about the serenity of driving an electric car, that driving the ELR was like taking a month off. Instead it turned out to be a brash message about the rewards of American hard work.

The lefty part of my brain that rejects the work-till-you-drop culture in the US hated it. But the America-kicks-ass side of my brain liked it.

I like it. Yet I believe in the "work to live" philosophy that much of Europe embraces. Stuff is just stuff. That said, I'll take one ELR and one cts vsport :b

I am no marketing genius, but I am guessing the ad won't run in Europe.
