The former Audi and Infiniti executive has in his first three months at Cadillac decided to move its marketing headquarters to New York and described how far Cadillac must go to become a top tier luxury auto brand.
Speaking at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference in New York Thursday, de Nysschen laid out a series of changes he plans, including:
- Shrinking the U.S. dealerships from 929 to a leaner "network of boutique shops" in locations where luxury carbuyers want to go, which he estimated would cost at least $170 million.
- Expand Cadillac's product offerings from six to 12 by the end of the decade, including a new flagship sedan to be unveiled next spring in New York.
- Put profitability before sales volume.
- Introduce models with diesel engines and right-hand drive steering to compete better in Europe, particularly the U.K.
- Reduce dealer inventories in the U.S. where dealers reported 119 days supply of vehicles at the end of October, nearly twice the 60-day average for all luxury brands and about triple the stocks at BMW dealerships.
