Cadillac DTS, CTS & Escalade Top 10 Best Selling Luxury Automobiles

Cadillac is not unlike the Statue of Liberty.

It is not only a symbol but also a beacon of sorts; a light to the rest of the struggling U.S. automotive industry that with hard work and determination, prosperity (and market-share) is possible. General Motors' Cadillac subsidiary is proof that not only does Detroit still possess the ability to produce luxury cars but, more important, that a once-mighty brand can rebound.

Many upscale customers feel they must turn to foreign automakers for decent luxury cars. But Cadillac has returned from a slump in the 1980s and '90s to build some of the world's best upscale cars, including its new DTS sedan. Like the Statue of Liberty, Cadillac is a symbol for all that America can be.

The company has a towering, Lady Liberty-like presence in the following slide show as well, which is a list of 2005's best-selling luxury cars. Cadillac has three vehicles on the list--more than any other automaker. The only other companies with more than one vehicle on the list are Toyota Motor's Lexus and Honda Motor's Acura subsidiaries.

I noticed a bunch of cars are losing sales or are predicted to lose sales in the following years. But Cadillac from the looks of it, is going to increase.

How was this list even compiled? Why were luxury cars above 50K not mentioned? You know, like the Lexus LS, Benz S Class, or BMW 7 Series? In full size luxury sedans, I believe the Lexus LS remains the best selling car for that class.

I'm not really surprised. Generally because Cadillac's cost less than the competition plus the slapped on rebates. Plus considering many of the new Cadillac's are big floaty land barges anymore, I think with their appeal and long history makes them a good seller. They seem to be one of the few GM brands that have been damaged from the 90's.

Does the LS outsell the DTS and the Towncar?

I believe this list is a overall luxury cars. Benz S Class and 7 Series arent on here because their MSRPs start at 60-65k and people wont buy a lot of something that is expensive.

That's irrelevant, because the DTS and Town Car are not in the same class as a Lexus LS, 7 Series, or an S Class.

I realize this.

I just think the list would be more accurate if the cars were more specifically narrowed down to specific price points, and full size luxo sedans were mentioned.

Re: Cadillac DTS, CTS & Escalade Top 10 Best Selling Luxury Automobiles

I'm unclear about the utility of carving up the market to an extreme; I'm not so sure what the information would yield.

I find it a bit shameful that America cannot place a luxury vehicle in the top five, but there are some points worth highlighting:

Quote:
...The DTS is not only the best-selling luxury car for over $40,000, but one of only two vehicles on this list that cost over $40,000.
Quote:
...Despite being the last-generation model before the overhauled, 2007 version arrives next year, the current Cadillac Escalade SUV has managed to be one of the ten best-selling luxury-model lines this year. It is an icon with a rabid following--one of the premier American status symbols--and no competitors can cool its sales success.
and I find this pretty telling...

Quote:
Cadillac CTS...

...it was introduced at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August 2001...

2005 American Sales: 53,959
Year-Over-Year Increase: 6%
Incentives or no, it seems that putting effort by way of cash and design and engineering resources can yield success, GM. Who'd thunk?

Cadillacs don't have rebates. At least not in the U.S.

And just how many of those Cadillacs were fleet, compared to the Asians?

I see an awful lot of new rental Caddys here in WPB this time of year. Lincoln TCs too.

Re: Cadillac DTS, CTS & Escalade Top 10 Best Selling Luxury Automobiles

I love that the reason cited for the decline in ES330 sales was its age, while the CTS posted an increase and has been on the market just as long. The CTS is going to be a VERY hard act to follow for Cadillac! I also read in the captions about the CTS that the next- generation model begins production in Sept. '07, after being unvieled in January of that year.
