Cadillac CTS earns top safety award

http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr010908.html

Quote:
ARLINGTON, VA — The redesigned Cadillac CTS earns the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick award for 2008. The CTS is one of only three large luxury cars to earn the designation this year.

Quote:
"All luxury cars should perform as well as the CTS," Lund says. "It's a leader in its class for safety. Frontal crashworthiness has improved dramatically for all cars in recent years, but there are still significant differences in how vehicles perform in our side and rear tests."

Note, the other two are not Mercedes, BMW or Jaguar.

Cool, now I know I'm safe! The car just feels well-made. No other way to describe it.

Re: Cadillac CTS earns top safety award

Here's the main reason the CTS is about 300 pounds too heavy - to pass the insurance industry's crash tests.

The IIHS's tests doesn't care about fuel efficiency, performance, or anything except promoting cars that will help its keep insurance costs down. There's good and bad in that.

I agree! Now everyone can stop bitching about 'the weight issue'. The cost of safety in vehicles currently, is weight.

30/40 MPG don't mean much if you can't survive a crash. it just means your family can afford a higher price casket with the money you saved on gasoline. i bet a lot of people who complain about the price of gasoline have 50" flat screen TVs in their house

Proof that when GM wants to build a car well, it can do so in spades.

Congrats to GM.

You guys are high on the Kool Aid.

There are plenty of cars that are Top Safety Picks that aren't candidates for the next season of America's Biggest Loser.

How many of them are the same size as the CTS and offer the same (or better) level of NVH?

That's absolutely fabulous. About one third to one half of my posts on these forums are related to safety features and crash safety.

It's official, GM hit a grand slam with the 2008 CTS.

Noooo. Quite a few of GM's cars are heavier without getting the Top Safety Ratings. And the 9-3 and 9-5 are quite trim, yet manages the Top Safety and 5-Star Ratings.

Isn't Sigma all aluminum? Or mostly aluminum? The car should be lighter.

In either case, Cadillac better start advertising the safety award. Use Kate Walsh again, if they have to. Just promote this!!!
