That would make sense, have a high output 4 cylinder for an option. The turbo DI 2.0 tuned for a few more ponies would be a good starting point.

Re: Cadillac Australia Launch Set For Late 2008, With Petrol & Diesel CTS Sedan

The CTS in Oz will only come with the 2.8 l VVT V-6 and 3.6l DI VVT V-6. The 2.8l V-6 will have the following performance and fuel economy:

2.8L V-6 Performance
(PS/kW/rpm) 211/155/6800
Max. torque (Nm/rpm) 246/3600
Top speed (mph) 127
Acceleration 0-62 mph (sec.) 9.0
Fuel consumption - mpg (l/100 km)
– urban 16.8 (16.8)
– extra-urban 36.7 (7.7)
– combined 25.7 (11.0)

A 25.7 mpg/ 11 liter per 100km combined fuel economy is not bad!

I'm hoping the CTS can do better in Australia than it has here in Europe. It just hasn't been a player in the market. I had higher expectations with the 08 version, but
it just hasn't won over fickle Europeans.
They will have to try harder next time, like a dual mode/plug-in with 200+ MPG...

The CTS (and Caddy) in Oz sounds like a great move for GM!

Did not the H3 Hummer sell out in Australia exceeding all expectations?
Expectations were pretty low for the brand and they met that. I agree with BBDOS CV8 they now are dealer stock. To put the Hummer's meagre sales record into perspective, the 5th largest selling "car" in Australia was the Toyota Landcruiser that sold 1800 in May. The Hummer sold 700 over two years.

No certainly will not be. The whole "Premier Group" idea is now coming back to haunt Holden. If they had produced a "Torana" well a different story.

I cannot predict the success or failure of Cadillac in Oz, though it seems like some already are trying to do so, as much as one man's prediction is worth (ahem).

However, it's beyond overdue that GM take a more global perspective with its brands/products, mostly because I imagine it will make it easier for them to justify the R&D of many products (e.g., a CTS Coupe convertible!), which will in turn give a better chance of improving sales regionally.

Re: Cadillac Australia Launch Set For Late 2008, With Petrol & Diesel CTS Sedan

I say give it a chance. They're already building RHD CTS for other markets, so it's not costing much to offer it in Australia. I think they will sell enough to cover the costs and they will be reintroducing the brand to the country. More Cadillac models will come later.

As for the H3, it's nowhere near the utility vehicle the LC is nor does it have a history with Aussies like the LC does, so it's going to sell in much lower volume and shouldn't even be compared. Maybe compare it to the Land Rover LR2, and even then, it hasn't the heritage. When the diesel finally makes it out of the factory I'm sure global sales will increase.

Just because you don't agree with it doesn't make Europeans fickle. Why would or should we choose a yank-tank over a quality and proven European product?? This whole global domination thing Cadillac have tried to do in the last 3 years has been a mistake- and thankfully they are paying for it! It's just over-arrogance over sense. I would much rather an A4 or X-F over any of the Cadillac line up. Give up and concentrate on your domestic troubles.

I would liken the cadilac in Australia to the Ute in America. both are experiments to a degree and if they come off good. If they dont then at least huge amounts of money wasn't wasted as both are existing product modified to suit. More of this thinking is needed.

Could not agree more. Outside the US: in Europe cutting edge Opel products; in Australia cutting edge Holdens. in Asia ,allow Daewoo/Chevrolet to sell quality, innovative cars instead of the "cut -price" bargains ( with little profit margin) they mostly sell in Eastern Europe.

um dont think so man, I think they will sell well, just like the 300 did but better.
I dont know about now but the 300 took 1/3 of the market for sedans in its class over there, I think the CTS can do even better for longer

Re: Cadillac Australia Launch Set For Late 2008, With Petrol & Diesel CTS Sedan

I am starting to think the same although it took me over 6 months before I got used to the "look" of the Caddy. I will be most interested to see how well the CTS is received. They really need to play on its economy because IMO there may be quite a few people who will blow it off as a thirsty american tank. It is the beginning of a new (and hopefully lucrative) era for Cadillac in aus. If they can prove themselves with a good diesel and appropriate quality and longevity, it may take off....though more Nicholas Florine than Buzz Aldrin.
