2005 BUICK CENTURY – MIDSIZE ELEGANCE, COMFORT AND VALUE IN THE BEST BUICK TRADITION

Century, one of Buick’s most popular models over the years, is being offered in a final limited production run for 2005 before making way for the all-new LaCrosse premium midsize sedan.

Continuing its quality reputation, Century was recognized by J.D. Power and Associates as No. 1 in the Premium Midsize Car segment in 2004 in the firm’s prestigious Initial Quality Study. Buick, which consistently does well in independent quality studies, was ranked No. 5 among 37 brands in the overall Power IQS rankings.

To commemorate its final year, the 2005 Century is offered in an extensively equipped Special Edition Package.

Standard functional features include dual-zone automatic temperature control, P225/60R16 touring blackwall tires on 16-inch chrome-plated aluminum wheels, and four-wheel anti-lock brakes.

Each Special Edition Century is identified by a chrome grille with a revised Buick tri-shield emblem, as well as rear badging signifying it as the top model in the Century range. Century Special Edition is offered in Sterling Silver Metallic, Cashmere Metallic and Cardinal Red Metallic, as well as a new exterior color for 2005: Glacier Blue Metallic.

Century continues to be available in three other trim packages: Standard, Custom and Limited. Each provides exceptional value by combining popular features and content into attractively priced groupings. In addition, each package is augmented by a wide selection of stand-alone options, enabling customers to further tailor Century to their specific requirements.

The Standard Package on the 2005 Century includes four-wheel power disc brakes, dual-zone climate control, six-passenger seating, remote keyless entry, power-programmable door locks with enhanced safety and lockout protection, PASS-Key II theft deterrent system, tilt-adjustable steering column, full instrumentation, air-filtration system, AM/FM audio system with CD player, and power windows with a driver’s express-down feature.

Every Century is also equipped with Buick's Convenience Plus package that adds delayed entry and exit lighting, interior light theater-style dimming, flash-to-pass control, battery rundown protection, auxiliary power outlet, and daytime running lamps.

Standard Package options include four-wheel anti-lock brakes, six-way power driver’s seat, cruise control, audio system with CD plus cassette player, OnStar safety and security system, engine block heater and color-keyed floor mats.

The Century Custom Package adds as standard a six-way power driver’s seat, cruise control, deluxe illuminated visor vanity mirrors, rear assist grips with switchable reading lamps, color-keyed floor mats and trunk cargo net. Custom Package options include four-wheel anti-lock brakes, OnStar, engine block heater and 15-inch chrome-plated wheel covers.

The Century Limited Package includes leather seating, steering wheel-mounted radio controls, 15-inch chrome-plated wheel covers and custom package content. Options include 15-inch aluminum wheels, four-wheel anti-lock brakes, driver’s side-impact air bag, OnStar, audio system with CD and cassette player and engine block heater.
Power, safety, security

Century is equipped with a 3100 3.1L V-6 engine that delivers 175 horsepower (130 kw) at 5200 rpm and 195 lb.-ft. (264 Nm) of torque at 4000 rpm. It is coupled to GM’s proven Hydra-Matic 4T65-E automatic transaxle for excellent overall performance. Century’s estimated fuel economy is 20 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway.

In addition to a full line of convenience features, Century also comes with an extensive list of safety features.

Century has dual-stage frontal air bags for supplemental protection for front seat passengers. Dual-stage frontal air bags are designed to help reduce the risk of air bag-induced injury. When the air bag system’s control unit detects an impact, it determines whether the crash is severe enough to trigger a deployment, and whether the primary amount of inflation is sufficient. The primary stage alone will deploy in most frontal impacts requiring the supplemental protection of an air bag, while a secondary stage is designed to deploy in more severe frontal collisions.

A driver’s side-impact air bag is available with leather-appointed seating.

Century is equipped with LATCH (Lower Anchors and top Tethers for CHildren) system anchors for child safety seats in all three rear seating positions. This system provides two lower anchors and a top tether anchor to be used to secure a child seat to the vehicle seat structure. These anchorages are designed to make it easier to properly install compatible child safety seats.

Quality may be high, but the leather seats in the Century feel like leather-covered concrete. I've never ridden in a car with less comfortable seats in my life than the '04 Century. My friggin' kayak is more comfortable.

Maybe that's why old folks tend to put extra seat cushions in their cars.

Why do they wait until a car is just about to die before they slap on the niceities?  They did that with the Oldsmobiles too.
Not always...the Cavalier got left overs. GM slapped on the left over racing stripes from the Camaro SS, left over Sunfire spoilers, and tacked on an extra grand. Cavalier LS Sport Special Edition....

You are right. Those wheels are totally un-Buick.

Actually this very same package was offered on the final run of 04's too. I saw these very same special editions with the Intrigue chrome rims about 4 months ago so this is actually old news. I kinda like this package but wish Buick went the extra mile and slapped in the 3400 to spice the car up a bit.

ive seen the intrigue wheels on the Buick, not bad. Its too bad that all they saved from the intrigue was the wheels and not the 3.5 DOHC, which was considered to be one of GMs best car engines. Thats the 3.5 that should be in the malibu, G6, and all of the new vans.

The 3.5 "Shortstar" DOHC engine from the Intrigue is a 90 degree V6 engine, though, I think... which probably means it wouldn't fit in the vans, at least.

One wonders how good Buick could be if it remembered its heritage and went back into the 1950's and 1960's when it was making cars that made Buick what it was.
Buicks would look something like this:

This was my first thought... Why? Why? Why? And the Intrigue was a good car... better than the Century in my personal opinion. Those wheels will always be Oldsmobile wheels to me. Buick did the same thing for the LeSabre, they gave it the old STS wheels for the top line edition in 2004.

Just let this car die and give us the Lacrosse.

It's that special! GM is trying to tart up one of its step children by claiming "special edition". Don't get me wrong. This car is good ... good and dull, but at least it isn't offensive on the eyes or a travesity on interior space like the Grand Prix and the soon to be executed G-6. One wonders how good Buick could be if it remembered its heritage and went back into the 1950's and 1960's when it was making cars that made Buick what it was. I'd drive a Buick if someone gave me one, but I really wouldn't rather have a Buick to keep.

....that is unless I could have a one of dem 454 powered monsters from the late 60's and early 70's.
Why must you be so negative about all GM products. If anything, the new G6 is a high water mark for Pontiac. It is well designed, has an appealing line of engines to be released over the next year.

If you don't like GM products.. then go troll somewhere else.

Buicks better get to looking and driving like this, or they're headed the way of Oldsmobile.

like a Chrysler??? I'm sure the dealer base would love the big influx of warranty work coming into their shops!!!
Looks generally don't affect warranties.

My point is that Buick used to be bold, now they are jellybean tame.
