How much better than the 5th gen are you expecting the 6th gen Camaro to be?

Let's see what people's expectations are? I personally have high hopes. Alpha will be a much more appropriate Camaro architecture than Zeta is. I'm expecting smaller, lighter, better handling, better steering feel, better ergonomics and visibiity.

What are you guys hoping for?
Pony Car: an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image and an available V8.

    What you just said

And less "obvious" retro -- that is, less cartoonish.

I'd like to see it built in the US -- and bring back Camaro shield.

Re: How much better than the 5th gen are you expecting the 6th gen Camaro to be?

I was having some 'issues' with the Sh*ty a' Chicago and parking regs with my Dodge pickup and over the weekend I was contemplating a variety of entry level replacements. One that really looms large is the Camaro (I've owned a Mustang and Challenger briefly and saw no reason to get a new version of either, but a Camaro I've never owned).

They are offering a lease on the LS of $259/month with only $800 due at signing - unlike the $3K of most other leases. That is huge on a lease since it's just renting a car for several years.

Mighty tempting. And part of that reason is the Camaro is substantial car - more like a modern day Monte Carlo - in terms of heft and power. I think many people will miss the outlandish styling, high standard power of 323hp and ominous presence of the current model. It has some things you could see as a 'a feature not a bug' - like the crazy high doorsills - but then that gives it chopped and channelled look and makes for taller fenders.

The new one will have to contend with the Alpha chassis's saner and more practical dimensions - but it's going to look more like a cut-down sedan than the current one. That Code 130 thingee shows the dilemma they face. The can keep the mega wheels and the flat hood or have normal wheels and sloping hood but in terms of sheer styling, the Alpha has less to work with and will inevitably be more like a two door ATS than the 'batmobile' it is today.

The new one has big shoes to fill - the 4th Gen died an ignoble death in the midst of an SUV orgy - but the new model leaves wearing sales laurels and with really devoted following.

The 5th had really nowhere to go but up, but the 6th could be a disappointment. It will be a challenge for them to get it right.

I don't know King Elvis, I think you may be wrong about styling. If anything Zeta hindered swoopy styling. The reason the Camaro has such poor visibility is the need to plop the Camaro concept's styling on top of Commodore's bones.

The next gen ZL1 if it comes to fruition with LTA (?) supercharged power will be a car that will truly match the GT500 in every way I believe.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

I was trying to pen some 6th G Camaros based on lay-overs of pix of the ATS and it's a tough nut. Even though the ATS is only 56" it's kind of tall relative to the small wheels. Maybe they'll have a lower cowl/windsheild base on the Camaro version but I thought that was considered a 'hard point' that was fixed. They could just cut the roof down kind of like the ATS coupe is 'chopped' - but as I said if you want the flat hood then you have to retain the mega 20" wheels - see the Code 130. I have high hopes for the 6th G and I hope they can make it 'iconic.'

Exterior styling I don't expect the next gen to be an improvement because I love the current generation. With the right wheels and lowered just a bit, it looks freakin sweet. Beyond that I expect the interior to be much better, less hard plastic and more techy interior bits. I expect it to handle better since it will be lighter, overall it should be an improvement.

You don't have to weight any longer. The 5th gen is already here. That should take a load off your mind. I believe you meant 6th gen. That's the bulk of my post.

I'm hoping Al O. (and his team) do the development of the 6th gen. He's done a great job polishing up the 5th gen since he took over as Chief Engineer.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Camaro's proportions are different than the ATS, ie., longer front wheel to cowl length for example. Similar to how they moved the wheels around on the Commodore to make the 5th gen work.

Let me see if I can find...

Here we go: I did some overlays of comparing the current car to if it were re-proportioned onto Alpha ATS wheelbase. I also did a 130R over that vehicle for comparison.
