Smaller, lighter, Camaros and Mustangs are on the way, but also, reportedly, a smaller, lighter replacement for the Challenger, the Chrysler/Dodge Barracuda. A final decision on whether it will be marketed as a Dodge or Chrysler is still unkown, but the car itself was reportedly greenlighted in late 2011.
The story goes.....that the current Challenger will carry on without any further investments through 2013/14. Then in the 2014/15 time frame a smaller replacement for the Challenger, based on Fiat's CUSW, (Compact US Wide), architecture, will spawn a family of smaller RWD cars. The CUSW is the architecture used on the new Dodge Dart, BTW. It is reportedly flexible enough to be configured in FWD, AWD and RWD. It's been called CUSW+ for the Barracuda. Expect the usual turbo4/V6 engines......but sources have also said that several new versions of the Hemi 6.4L, V8 engine will be available.
The Pony Car wars are about to get VERY hot!
