Evolutionary has not had a negative impact on the Germans, possibly it won't on the Mustang/Camaro. The Alpha chassis is so good that I think it is entirely possible that "fun to drive" may carry the day over styling (and if the evolutionary theme is correct, it still looks awesome).
Didn't Ford say that the 3 Series was the benchmark and the intended competition of the Mustang two or so generations ago (with much snickering from the press)? Seems like with the new Mustang and the upcoming Camaro that they may become true competition for the 3 series in driving dynamics. And style wise they seem to be looking more sophisticated, again stepping into 3 Series territory. So could they start stealing low end 3 Series sales? Then for those who want more sophistication there is the ATS and isn't Lincoln working on a vehicle off the Mustang chassis? If these vehicles get marketed correctly things could get interesting. But marketing will be a big "if".
The hips pinch in more then that, you can tell by how much they moved the door handles in the photochop. I expect the shape to be a bit more dramatic then their photochop.
I agree this is much to tame. I am expecting a lot of detailing and sharp lines to make the last generation Camaro 5 and dialing it up to 10 with a slim platform and better packaging. This is going to be quite a difference. I would say it is going to look like the difference between C6 & C7. GM designers seem to like the look lock-heed skunk works applies to military fighter jets just not as crazy as lambo/lexus(new CUV)
If you like the current model, you'll like this one, too. If you don't, you won't; I don't.
The best analogy I can think of is that it has the squinty-eyed look of a morbidly obese person. I was hoping for a more athletic look - svelte and lean, more reminiscent of the early second generation Camaro.
I'm also hoping for a svelter, leaner look. Although I think the current 1LE and Z/28 are phenomenal packages, the 5th gen is just too big and chunky for me to fall in love with. The 6th gen does look more athletic, even under it's camo, than the 5th gen does - we'll see what the undisguised version looks like. Hopefully, the combo of lower cowl and shorter length will give us the leaner look we are looking for.
According to Al, Camaro's chief Engineer, the thin upper grill is as a result of the racing experience with HKS and Stevenson, plus the ZL1 development work.
They found air flows better through the car if you pick it up from the lower end and expel it outside of the hood... Pretty interesting work. It will be interesting to see if they mount the radiator like they do in the Corvette and their racing applications., slanting foward.. There certainly is enough engine bay for that.
That first 1/4 rear shot is as close as I've seen to what I see when I look at the spy shots. Aside from the tail lights being an obvious guess as far as the layout of colors and design, the outside shape is correct. The rear quarter window looks correct to my eye, and this is the first render I've seen that got the bottom of the doors correct! Every camo shot I've seen shows the corner is rounded at the rear bottom corner.
I'm liking it. Lighter, smaller, better engines...Yep. Sign me up.
I think the rear haunches are going to have a sharper "Ridge line" that extends into the door. I also think that car scoops is trying to add some transformers to the headlights. We'll see!
Certainly as good as any rendering we have seen thus far. I still think the 6th Gen will have some details that will further remove it from the looks of the 5th Gen.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed the 6th Gen surprises the hell outta me with its appearance. I sure hope it LOOKS more than just a Generation 5.1, so if I decide to buy one I won't constantly be telling people, "No no it's actually a completely different car than a Gen 5", and then have them sweep across the car with their eyes, give me a confused look and say, "Yeah ok riiiiiiiight whatever you say".
Well that's my opinion. You don't have to like it.
I find it hard to believe the Camaro rear fascia will not be flush. GMs been really good at incorporating fascia's into their cars overall design. Plus the rear license plate area does look its been engineered/designed for a wider European license plate, hmmm....
I get what you're saying. I'm not huge on some of these renderings either. Almost looks as if they took a 5th Gen and melted it under a broiler for a few minutes. Smaller (good), but also softer (bad). I will reserve judgment until the real thing is unveiled of course.
I don't believe there will be LEDs in the lower fascia. You can see slits where they are in one of the videos. It looks like slits for a brake cooling duct.
Again, I hope it looks leaner than that. Currently, it just looks like a less blocky version of the 5th gen. The edges are smoothed out which I like, but it still looks big.
I stacked pictures of 2014 Camaros on top of these renderings and showed them off to multiple friends/coworkers. IF (the big if, of course) their opinions translate into success or failure of the 6th Gen then so far if the 6th Gen looks like those renderings people are gonna WISH they had bought a 5th Gen off the showroom floor when they had the chance...
So, here's to hoping GM shocks everyone when they actually unveil the 6th Gen and it stirs the soul and excites the passion like never before.
I highly doubt that's gonna be the result. The idea here is to keep the car number 1 in sales and they're not gonna disturb the winning formula that much. This is more like a mid cycle restyle.
Yup, and the style won't be changing that much, as we can see. GM has said so also. People expecting big changes are gonna be disappointed because this is basically gonna be an "improved" 5th Gen. That should be more than enough to keep them winning the sales race.
Not sure if this video from GM design out here in California was ever posted or not, but thought I'd stick it here anyway. Go to :37 and :55 into the video.
