    1) Traction will be an insurmountable problem.

    2) Even an LS9 won't give the ZL1 a superior power to weight ratio.

    3) Anyone else think that this is getting stupid?

Goodness, where will it stop LOL? We really need to get a car out there with a better weight to power ratio so we don't need 650HP to top this kind of thing.
Z28 is once again a top model Camaro. Victory achieved!

We're getting into the laws of diminishing returns on more power. The existing GT500 is already traction limited, both in terms of drag racing and acceleration out of corners on road courses. Wider tires would help a little, but channeling that much power through two wheels has its limitations.

Right now, the Nissan GTR, with similar power and weight to the GT500, outruns it in every objective measure. Some of this is due to a very sophisticated chassis, but a lot of it is due to the raw traction of AWD. All 600 hp is going to do for the GT500 is improve its high speed acceleration times and top speed. And, in North America, how relevant is a car's 100 - 150 mph acceleration time?

A lot of hype for both vehicles. Now, when do they meet on the track? Like with March Madness, I am getting excited about the Mustang-Camaro rivalry. Or is this going to be like that movie of the 2 British runners (Chariots of Fire) of which they never really race each other but there is a lot of drama and song....

Re: ZL1, we have a problem....

You guys are funny....I really don't think with over 550hp and 550 lb/ft of tq...two hundred and sixty pounds is much of anything to be concerned about...(says the man with the 3200 lb C6 corvette with only 436hp that pulls .99 lateral G's, accelerates to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds and tops out at 190mph... ) These new pony car MONSTERS are AWESOME! (Hemi who? with "ONLY" 475hp) When did any of us ever think we would hear those words??????????

These new pony car 50 grand entries are putting out more hp than some Vipers and most Vettes!

I tend to agree this hp war will end with insurance premiums etc....but till that happens..

Let these two great american brands offer us as consumers the choice.

I think its cool as hell and I still prefer the chevy brand...

So my question is what will kill these vehicles off? Take a shot in the dark and ponder a guess...

Will it be the price? the economy? Fuel economy needed or wanted by consumers? Will it be the government fuel efficiency regulations due to go into effect in 2016? Will it be insurance premiums?

Awesome that ford, chevy and chrysler are creating some high hp affordable vehicles....

Just curious what you think will kill them off by 2016? or will they find ways to survive anf florish for those of us who could give two sh ts about gas mileage????

lets not forget the cadillac CTS V with 556hp and a ton of luxury as well...

I think that we are. The new GT500 will probably not be much, if at all, faster than the current GT500.

How is the update to the Mustang a problem? Stats on paper are pretty meaningless.

With the weather they've been getting this week, testing has been great

There's more to a car than how much HP it makes...I wouldn't want a new Camaro or Mustang if it had 1000 hp.

There was a report that the 2012 440 hp 200lb lighter with revised suspension bushings etc equaled the Nissan GTR track time.

Might not the 600 hp gt beat the lap time of the GTR even though it has awd?
