Track Tested: Pontiac G8 GT vs 2010 Ford Taurus SHO

And then it's really no contest, the SHO's doors would be officially blown off...

Damn shame there isn't a 2010 G8 model.

It's ok for Ford though, because in no time flat, wesceont will be in here calling us all stupid, because you know, he is the only member allowed to be smart on GMI. Then, Simon Says (SobeSVT) and ausrutherford will be in here to back him up, turning this thread into an ultimate flame war.

As for the topic at hand, it's sad that this G8 won't be continued.

What surprises me is the v6 in the Ford doesn't get substantially better mileage than the G8 GT. From the official numbers it's pretty much dead even. I'd have thought a much wider margin should exist for an engine with the "eco" tag on it.

Here is the link where they said that in case you want to fix it: http://blogs.edmunds.com/roadtests/2...aurus-sho.html

It'll be interesting to see which of our resident Ford fans step up to the plate and address this.

I'll say one thing about the SHO, it has nice performance numbers. But when you compare it to something like a v6 Camry or v6 Accord, neither of which have the legend of an SHO-like car behind them, then the 0-60 performance in particular starts to look weak. The Camry is 0-60 in 6s and wasn't the v6 Accord coupe at 5.8?

Although I love the new styling, the price for the SHO is just too high.

And I still don't get the mileage. Why is it so bad? Is it the AWD + the weight?

I am neither a "Ford Fan" or a "GM Fan" specifically, I just judge vehicles on their own merit not based on what company made them.

That said. Why are we comparing a soon to be released (SHO) vehicle to a soon to be canceled vehicle? They will not even be competing in the market together.

Exactly. It's like a V8 without the 8 cylinders. same, if not worse fuel economy than a V8 AND it's quieter. eh.

Well let's put it up against a Charger R/T.
R/T and G8 GT comparos came out scarily close. I'm sure SHO and R/T results won't be much different than what we've just read here.

*Scratches SHO off his list when he moves to Ford.*

I just read this article as well. I love my G8 and am glad to see that it is still the best "bargain" performance sedan around. It is just a shame that they aren't continuing it and improving on the little things like Nav availability.

After hearing a lot of talk, I think some of us are just trying to get a bead on what the Taurus SHO really is. It's starting to seem obvious that's it's nothing close to a sports sedan like the G8.

Ah, well that settles the argument I guess. When I read the title I expected the results posted as they are.

But its a heavier car aimed at the Luxury market more than the Sport market. It also has AWD, so lets compare mileage to a G8 that I can drive in Iowa during an ice storm. Its great everyone wants to compare the SHO to the G8 on performance but there very very different cars, and no G8 fans seems to talk about features or all seasonability.

I think the G8 should be compared to Mustang, Camaro, its more of a 4 door pony car than the SHO or even the 300C. And thats great if thats what the buyer wants, but based on the fact that G8 is going away, I'm guessing that thats not what most buyers are after. I think a competent sport (notice Sport, not pony) entry by Buick would sell far better than the G8 since I feel most buyers in this category want an equal mix of Sport, Luxury and technology.
