Re: Review: Pontiac G8 GT vs Dodge Charger R/T

That G8 would be a good entry for NASCAR I'd think. At least the drivetrain is right.

Re: Review: Pontiac G8 GT vs Dodge Charger R/T

Don't get me wrong, I love the G8 for what it is, but I can guarantee sales and exposure would be way better (better than the Charger for sure) if this was a new Chevy Impala instead. Plus I think it would look a little better (based on the front clip I've seen from other contries) and there would be more justification for an El Camino.

Pontiac is slowly losing its point for me.

1. You fail at the internet. THIS is post 54.

Pontiac G8 is another flop for GM

2. I didn't ASK for Charger vs G8 numbers...I asked for YTD Charger RT vs G8 GT numbers.

Trying to compare car sales in 2005 to car sales in 2008 (4 years later) is foolish especially in these economic times.

So I'll ask again to anyone who can answer.... March-Present R/T vs GT sales numbers. Anyone have them?

If you read the summary by Bigalsz28, think the sales are going to reflect that.

...it's post 109 by the way. Sorry, I fail at the internet.

Impala? Naw... GM did it right with Pontiac. The G8 brings a lot to the table for the money thanks to our Aussie friends.

Re: Review: Pontiac G8 GT vs Dodge Charger R/T

i think GM should do it this way:

Chevy=Buick....Chevy and Buick share many platforms(FWD) with each other

Pontiac=Cadillac.....Cadillac shares platforms like the Sigma(CTS) with Pontiac and Pontiac shares the Zeta(G8), same with the Kappa, but they use different top-hats for their vehicles so it does not appear to be a re-badge

get rid of the others

in essence make Pontiac/Cadillac all RWD and Chevy/Buick mostly FWD with some obvious exceptions...

the only problem i see with a Impala version would be the abominations of this that would emerge from the ghetto community just because it is named "Impala"

also if it were to be an Impala then there would have to be a very low base model and then you would see one of these almost everyday and then the design would get old.....i like it rare, the GTO is still pretty rare and i believe the G8 will be as well

agreed but theres really no way to stop that if the car is going to be made.

Not necessarily. Make the trims like the G8 except make it a chevy (better looking like the pic you posted IMO) and eliminate the pontiac redundancy. Problem solved. Except give the base v8 a damn stick!

Well, now the Charger R/T is more powerful than the G8 and gets better fuel economy. When you're late to the party, the bar moves right after you get there.

Re: Review: Pontiac G8 GT vs Dodge Charger R/T

I agree with them on the styling front. The Charger for me says American, bold style and trying to be different. The G8 says BMW generic been there done that styling and souless letter name. Shame because it has a great powertrain and interior. This car so desperately needs a different exterior to the Commodore, AWD option and a manual tranny on all models as at least an option. If they really are trying to take on the foreign competition they need to walk the walk.

I agree. I miss pontiac bein in the race, it would make it relevant again...they can kick toyota out while they're at it

Has Toyota's public perception changed since being in NASCAR? One could argue that most people don't even know they race. And the ones that do know probably couldn't care less, as there's no correlation between what's on the race track and what's on the sales floor anymore.

I don't see why Pontiac would have a different experience.

With GM refusing to replace the Impala with a RWD model off of the zeta platform, would they ever consider making a 9C1 police package for the G8? Like Dodge does with its Charger, it could start with the V6 as standard and offer the V8 as an option, replace the floor shifter with one on the column, replace the aluminum wheels with HD stamped steel, and replace the sporty seats with HD ones covered with durable cloth for the front buckets and vinyl for the rear bench. The current Impala is a bit too small to carry all of the electronic equipment that many departments use such as laptops, ticket readers, printers, video cameras and monitors, etc. Their durability has been uneven and when their backseats are equipped with a prisoner cage, they are too tight. The G8 9C1 is the best answer. Maybe GM of America could borrow the name Pursuit from their northern neighbors.
