So, once again, if you'd consider that buckling, I guess it is.
I say knee jerk reaction because they already sell so many gas guzzlers. Now GM is in "cover our a**" mode & throwing out junk (yes, I said junk). Just my view on the business.

I still think it's not out of the question that a G8 coupe, or even GTO could turn up. However, with the G8 sedan currently struggling a bit, I'm not sure about that.
Actually, no. The '04-'06 GTO wasn't the cause for the next generation of GTO to be cancelled. The same problems that GM is facing now have more to do with it getting cancelled. Engineering costs, fuel economy concerns, & Pontiac's overall place in the corporation were some of those problems. The only way that a G8 Coupe/GTO would go into production now is if gas got cheap again. No other reason will bring that car into the showroom.

There is no way a there will be a Morano/G8 coupe given 1) CAFE, 2) the poor sales of the G8 and 3) the money to develop it which GM doesn't have.

It's Monaro. And the only thing why it's not going to happen is GM's skewed perception of business risk.

At least Mopar comes up with some good model names. Unlike Lacrotch, aveo...

They have a guaranteed sale of a G8 coupe here... if it's not over 3,900 lbs.

Interestingly enough, the Mitsubishi 3000GT was called Mitsubishi GTO originally (in Japan). And it basically was what a contemporary GTO should have been.

We don't even know what they're going to "throw out" yet. No, the G3 probably shouldn't happen, but they could possibly do something interesting. That's what this whole debate started about was cars "killing" Pontiac but they went through the 80s and early 90s with cars with very low performance that they still managed to sell as "exciting."

I've read differently from a few sources, but since neither one of us was consulted on the decision or at the meeting, we'll just have to have a difference of opinion. They very easily could have done a next generation GTO instead of the G8. Seems like it wouldn't have made much difference sales-wise.

I like the G8. If they kept the Atari gauges instead of putting a blank hole in the slot, I'd be considering a dark red G8 GT since odds are the Coupe 60 isn't coming... and then slapping a blower with long tubes (with cats, of course) and a dyno tune on it to blow the doors of some others. I just wish it wasn't so porky too. The should have named the G8 the Grand Prix.

Gm really needs new management, I mean when it gets to the stage of GM cutting programs due to lack of money, it doesn't really make a ringing endorsement of the current management.

And really what is the point of pontiac really?

Check with some of the people at www.G8board.com. In regards to the Atari guages, all of the hook-ups may be there, just simply unplugged due to bad reviews of their looks.

And it should have had Vin Diesel as its spokesperson right?
