Pontiac G8 ST to get 3.6 di V6

DETROIT — Contrary to what Pontiac has announced thus far, the newly named 2010 Pontiac G8 ST quasi-pickup truck will be offered with both V8 and V6 engine options.

Pontiac's plan was to offer the ST with only the 361-horsepower 6.0-liter V8 from the G8 GT sedan. But according to a highly placed engineer at The General, the company will bow to fuel economy pressures and also offer the 3.6-liter V6 when the ST goes on sale late in 2009 as a 2010 model.

Good move. Kind of obvious, but good nonetheless

Good. Now the CTS needs a better base engine just to keep the hierarchy right.

Re: Pontiac G8 ST to get 3.6 di V6

If it does, so will the G8 V6 then.

Just ANOTHER reason for G8 production to move to Oshawa along with Camaro. This should be happening NOW.
Costs would be cut down, as well as it can spread the costs of the navi, suspension, powertrain, etc etc vs Camaro and G8, as well as ST.

I would assume that early in the piece and agreement would have struck to utilise Ozs capacity to manufacture the HFV6 in a way to aid the business case for Zeta development as a whole. I would also have expected the available resources of Oshawa to be made use of in manufacturing another (presumably cancelled) Zeta product for NA.

The presumed cancellation may well affect the original agreement, but for the sake of Holdens viability, I would have to hope things stay as they are...with the DIV6 becoming the default SV6/Calais powertrain and the 5 speed 195 shifting to the lower commodore models.

Re: Pontiac G8 ST to get 3.6 di V6

This is excellent news! I have a buddy who wants a G8 ST in a couple of years, but said he would only do it if it comes with a V6.

I myself would be interested in a V6 with the six-speed manual and sport options, if GM would bring it here.

The G8 ST gets a LOL for not being the El Camino.

Excellent job, GM.
