Re: Pontiac G3 NOT coming to US...yet.

Good because I would hate to see Pontiac commercials saying "Pontiac is Crap" instead. Close one!

Thankfully. If Saturn has the Astra and Pontiac gets the G3 then Pontiac might as well pack it up.

Exactly! People wonder why cars like the G8 aren't considered credible, respectable performance sedans by someone who would shop an Infiniti dealership. It's because Infinities aren't sharing badges and showroom space with the cheapest car GM makes in the US (and second cheapest one it sells here) the rebadged Cobalt/G5. The G5 is less respectable though, since there's no performance version. Not to mention the Vibe, a Toyota Corolla with more weight to haul around, but without the MPGs, power, or reliability you would expect from such an ancestry. Add to that the string of be-cladded Azteks, Montana/Trans Sport vans, Torrents with anemic Chinese engines, and myriad other budget-beaten products over the last 30 years, and the last thing Pontiac needs is the most econobox car GM makes in its stable.

Pontiac is not a stray dog. GM, stop dumping your scraps there.

Re: Pontiac G3 NOT coming to US...yet.

I still say hack the Aveo wacky 5-door, keep only the decent-looking Aveo sedan... and give Pontiac THAT G3 5-door, which looks better than its Aveo cousin... don't bother with a G3 sedan.

That way, the G3 5-door can be marketed alongside the Vibe.

For those who don't want the G3 to come to the U.S., don't hold your breath.

Why not? Is it better to have us driving Fits and Yari instead?

And this things is why GM is in so damn much trouble , instead of selling that and the US aveo why dont they bring this as the replacement for the aveo, when Ford brings the fiesta it will eat more sales from the Aveo

You know, it is absolutely stupid that a car sold in the US is not sold here or a car sold here is not sold in the US...we have the same weather, roads, interests and rules. Not much changes when you cross the border. I think (and I hate generic little POS cars as much as anyone) that GM needs this car in the US. LOTS of people only buy a car to get from A to B and cheaply too....if they priced it right it would sell.

Thankfully though Canada just dropped it's bumper law that nobody else uses anymore, so many cars are now legal to import here from the US that weren't previously (04-06 GTO and I am looking at several!) and corvettes don't need bumper parts changed out..

Just think if GM made all their cars the same, the euro crapboxes could be over here in droves...and I know every country has its own rules that have to be met with engineering changes but under a global economy its too bad we can't have global standards.

AND why do the Aussies get all the cool cars????

Pontiac Performance as in:

The 132 hp Vibe?
The 185 hp Torrent?
The 148 hp G5? (only available in 2 door because thats sporty)
The 164 HP G6 (4 cylinder?)

Or did you mean classic performace as in the Sunbird, LeMans, and Grand Am?

Pontiac is along way from the 60's and when "performance" really meant something. Pontiac is now "Sporty" with a couple of very good performing cars in the stable.

Yeah that's what you think. I went into a Tim Horton's and ordered a large coffee and they handed me like an 8 oz cup. The thing would've been a small at a Dunkin Donuts stateside! They wouldn't even load it up with cream and sugar.

Oh, and try getting any hockey news on the TV or radio in the US. NEVER. We can't even get games on regular TV until the playoffs. And yet we somehow stole the Stanley Cup and don't even talk about hockey.

Do you think there are any Mounties in this country? No.
Do you think everyone has good access to healthcare? No.
Do you think we have any idea what the hell a Kilometer is? No. Well Yes.. Ok maybe.. but we don't use them.

Oh, but your point about having the same cars here and there was pretty spot on. For Sure.

Go Devils.

Re: Pontiac G3 NOT coming to US...yet.

I don't have a problem with them bringing the G3 to the United States.

I do have a problem with them charging more for it than an Aveo, as it is in any way different except for a mishapen front grille and a few "Pontiacifications".

Same with the G5 vs. the Cobalt.

I know Canadians like to drive their Pontiacs , but this car is an abomination. It even cheapens the fender vents (portholes) found on the new Cadillacs... It's bad enough they had to tool up a new front end, but did they really have to cut holes in sheet metal just for this? Am I supposed to believe there's a lot of heat build up just below the A-pillar from generating all that horsepower?

Maybe it handles better with aluminum wheels, maybe it'll give the fit a run for its money in the slalom? Sad, that honda is the economical, sensible choice and yet their subcompact actually manages to appear sporty with 109 hp...
