Re: 2009 Pontiac G3 coming to the US

These have alreready been in Canada for a while. They tarnish the Pontiac image, horrible. They sell for C$9995 cash price here.

That said, I think GM is trying to make sure they have as much small car product on the maket as they can in quick order. Stop gap.

Re: 2009 Pontiac G3 coming to the US

GM once again demonstrates that they know nothing about building brand equity.

BMW does just fine without silly, pathetic vehicles like the G3. They weather the weak dollar and CAFE regs. In return, they have fantastic image and people will buy a BMW just to have a BMW. GM needs to learn that, even though the dollar is weak and it is not currently profitable to import vehicles, they need to stick to their guns, because the dollar will become strong again.

Same goes with fuel economy. When gas prices drop, GM will be caught will vehicles like the G3 and not enough rear-drive performance to show for it. THEY NEVER LEARN. HOW DO THEY STILL HAVE JOBS?

Re: 2009 Pontiac G3 coming to the US

This is so embarassing.

I keep thinking about how the local Chevy dealership here is next to the Pontiac dealer. Anyone cross shopping the two dealers is clearly going to see the Cobalt and Aveo and the G5 and the G3 and wonder what GM is trying to pull.

Autoblog was right. This isn't GM 2009, its GM 1989!

And after getting into the new Vibe this past weekend, I just want to take Pontiac out behind the shed and put it out of its misery.

Best looking car ever. Can't wait to get one. What a ********* joke. Pontiac Poor man BMW. Only idiots at gm can say that. Caddy standard of the world?? Sometimes i think these guys at gm use to many drugs and start to imagine things. Now all we need is a Saturn, buick and caddy version of this car. And GM wants Govr. Loans??? Now why should gov. give them anything when they do something like this???

Nothing wrong with a small Pontiac. The only problem is the Aveo is such a piece of junk, the G3 will be as well. It doesn't look THAT bad... it's like a mini-Vibe.

Re: 2009 Pontiac G3 coming to the US

It's obvious this business decision was CAFE induced due to economic uncertainty borne out of current high fuel prices. The world is changing rapidly, GM is bleeding capitol, and hard, swift choices MUST be made. As a Pontiac loyalist, I want to hate it, but yet I understand how BPG dealers needed a cheap econobox as quickly as possible. This car cost GM NOTHING extra to sell in the US! Unlike the G5, the new G3 nose is far more integrated and looks better then it's Chevy Aveo sister. Would I buy one? Absolutely not! However, if it keeps some CAFE "space" leftover for Pontiac to continue to offer me at least one RWD V8 model then I'm OK with this entry level addition. I'll make mine a G8 ST with 6 speed manual!!

Its fine that gm needs to obey cafe rules. But so do other companies. Do you see them pull something like this. Look at honda fit. It has great handeling something that you can not say about aveo. Its fun to drive something that you can not say about aveo and it looks much better then aveo or g3 (new fit). If pontiac needs a small car. Why not put different suspention in g3, bigger breaks, maybe 1.4l turbo engine so that it could be fun to drive. This way G3 would be way better then aveo and you can charge people more for it. Not just another crap like aveo that is just pure junk.

Behold, friends, the 2009 Pontiac G3 Wave. Yes, that's an Aveo5 with Poncho nostrils, and it reeks of product strategy that's more 1989 than 2009. Why not just call it G3 Le Mans? You know, in honor of the last Daewoo-sourced trashback that helped turn that whole "We Build Excitement" thing into a punchline. By comparison, this makes the equally distressing Pontiac G5 look like a Corvette ZR1 on the cool meter -- and trust us, this is the only scenario in which you'll ever see those two models mentioned in the same sentence again.
AUTOBLOG

They had not so good things to say... They ripped it... And they should... if they are comparing it to an Effin ZR1... Bottom line as I have said b4.. Pontiac as a ALL PERFORMANCE BRAND is absolutely impossible with CAFE breathing down their necks... For Every G3, Vibe and G5 there is a Solstice, G8, and G6.

I love performance as much as the next guy... but this idiotic infatuation that many here have that every car maker has to have a showroom full of cars that can hit 60 in 4secs shows a true lack of understanding business. Not to mention it would seem to indicate that U completely miss the fact that Pontiac actually has alternative cars out there.

So let me get this straight.. Pontiac.. because the market themselves as the "Excitement" division.. has to 100% completely adhere to only those types of cars??? I guess BMW being he "ultimate Driving Machines" makes U cringe when ever U step foot into a 328i?

Bottom line is that some people have it in their heads that Pontiac allowing the G3 to share a Lot with the GXPs... it will literally "SUCK the Performance " outta them. HOW STUPID... If U want a performance Pontiac.. buy a Solstice GXP, G6 GXP, or G8... Otherwise.. STFU.

From "We Build Excitement" to "Pontiac is Car".

Re: 2009 Pontiac G3 coming to the US

This gives the dealer a car roughly 4 grand less than a G5 for a buyer who's looking at a Korean price car to buy. Plus it's another 30+ mpg car for Pontiac.

There'll never be a 4 door G5. They want those buyers to move up to a G6, or go to a Chevy dealer.

Guys, the bank is empty for designing a new car at GM that was not already past drawing board stage. It's this or nothing. If it fails, GM hasn't lost much investment.
