I know you're in Canada too... but I don't want you guys getting my money either. I'm sorry... things are just really bad here (in my view, at least).

Are the G5s built in the US?

Re: Pontiac G3 Comes State-Side!

Does every car have to have the faux side vents? I've never seen a design trend fall from high end vehicles to the bottom end so fast. Lutz should have delayed the release of the G3 until the side vents were removed. I'm not sure Lutz even looked at this vehicle.

I'm looking forward to the G3 ST That's what we're going to end up with as gas prices keep going up. (Definitely kidding)

Re: Pontiac G3 Comes State-Side!

As for comparing it with the Fit, they are in the same segment... so that's what we're supposed to do. The Fit may be (no, it definately is) better, but I think the new one looks rather plain. I loved the rocket-ship look of the first generation in the USA Fit. After my Supercharged Accord died while saving my life, I was considering just using the insurance check for a Fit and not have a car note... then I found the ridiculous bargain known as the GTO... and now I have a payment.

G5s are built in Ohio? Isn't that the place that adopted Toyota and where GM is closing the plant?

Lordstown is where the G5/Cobalt are built until the new Cruze arrives and it will be built there.

I beleive Moraine, OH is the plant that will be closing.

As for the Toyota tie-in, the Vibe is built at NUMMI which is a Toyota Plant in California where GM 'leases' the plant and its workers to build our Vibe. Previously, the Geo Prizm (built off the Corolla platform) was built there (or was it at TMMI in Cambridge?)

The more and more I see this fricking thing on GMI's home page, the more I want to go to Lowes, buy a sledgehammer and smash the front end of this thing in.

Re: Pontiac G3 Comes State-Side!

Pontiac shouldn't have anything smaller or more entry level than a G5 XFE. BPG is supposed to be more upscale than Chevy, why compete with yourself? So stupid.

And they should discontinue the Cobalt coupe. Want a sedan, go to Chevy. Want a coupe, hit Pontiac. At least, that would be some differentiation!

Nobody goes to a Mercedes or BMW dealer looking for an Aveo priced car. Why should BPG customers? Going to that dealership means you want something more upscale/expensive than a Chevy, so why sell rebadged Chevys there. It tarnishes the image.

Prizm & the 85-88 Nova were built in Fremont by NUMMI...

They are trying to get the CAFE numbers for Buick-Pontiac-GMC. Actually, I like it better than the Chevy Aveo.

Re: Pontiac G3 Comes State-Side!

I'm struggling to post something constructive. Let's see...

1) At least the G3 didn't cost a lot of engineering money to create

2) The G3 isn't likely to be stolen

How's that?

Re: Pontiac G3 Comes State-Side!

I have merely two points to make in all this doom & gloom. Seriously, how do you guys live with yourselves? This is just a "meh" on my radar.

1. Believe it or not, the Aveo/G5's fuel economy is comparable with the Yaris and Fit.

Yaris: Man.: 29/36, Auto.: 29/35
Fit: Man.: 27/33, Auto.: 28/35
G3/Aveo: Man.: 27/34, Auto.: 25/34

Okay, so the auto transmission sucks, but the manual is competitive. It shows GM can make a car with competitive fuel economy in this segment. Comparing it to the Cobalt just shows how impressive the Cobalt's fuel economy is in this segment.

2. Has anyone here actually driven the 2009 Aveo and/or G3? I'm not talking about the 2008, I'm talking about the gaping maw'd '09.
