Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

Seriously, Buick61 is right...

They would have to certify it again for the G8 GT. And since it's a four door and the mid-level car, they probably believe that they can't make enough money off of bringing the manuals here for that particular model.

Seriously, U.S. crash testing and emission regulations are some of the most moronic regulations ever devised. Even the Euros seemed to have done better, and they're the absolute MASTERS of retarded bureaucracy.

Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

Anyone heard anything on the G8 getting the DI version of either the 3.0 or the 3.6?

Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

I suppose I had better chime in. I'm a long-time buyer of both GM cars and BMWs. I really want the new G8 and have driven friends and coworkers G8 cars, both the V6 and GT models - I really like them a great deal! Thing is, I just can't do without a manual transmission and the GXP is ridiculous. It's a deal breaker, and I'm standing here with money in my had ready to buy. Give me a base G8 GT with a 6MT already!

Word is that they will do it in the regular GT within a year or two - but I'll be back in an E90 3-Series by then. Sorry, GM - and sorry to all my friends who work over in Warren

Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

Every time I see a non-GXP G8, the first thing I think of is, "Too bad that's not a manual."

It really is too bad. If the G8 GT had manual, even as an option, then it would be at the top of my next-car shopping.

Is a clutch pedal really that important to you? You can shift a G8 auto manually.

Pretty much. Manual is a must.

I am not crazy either... a lot of people share the same sentiment.

Like me

It might not be quite enough to prevent me from even thinking about getting the car, but it's pretty substantial criteria.

For a niche car, for this niche, yes. I believe so.

Fair enough. When I drove the G8 GT the manual mode was great but to each their own.

Same here as well. I'd love the 3.6 DI V6 with a six-speed manual, just like the new Camaro has. If the GT came with a six-speed manual, I could live with the V8. But that GXP....it may be a great car, but a MSRP of $40k loaded is too rich for my blood.

As for manuals versus automatics, six of my seven cars have been manuals. I don't need no stinking torque converter messing up my fun!

Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

Typical GM builtin failure groupthink designed to tank Pontiac sales. Oh we'll put the MT in the Chevy line on the same chassis when the Camaro comes out. It's boat anchor thinking or corporate espionage depending on whether or not you are a Pontiac buyer/fan. How many more G8 GTs could have been sold at retail if the MT was available from the start? Eediots

Yes, I am ranting.

Maybe it is just an accountants view of sales analysis. If the option accounts for under 10% then don't bother with the extra certifications.

Except the manual take-rate on the GTO was something like 55%.

IMO, this is just GM trying to push enthusiasts into buying the more expensive GXP.

Re: No 6 Speed Manual for 2009 G8 GT

My whole point is they wouldn't do this to Chevrolet. Why are they doing it to Pontiac the brand that doesn't even have a full line?
