New Saab logo revealed by NEVS

    NEVS introduces new Saab logo
    By Ronan Glon
    Wednesday, Jan 23 2013

Hong Kong-based National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has unveiled the new emblem that will adorn the hood of every Saab when production is resumed.

Penned with input from design agency Stockholm Design Lab AB, the new logo ditches Saab's traditional dark blue in favor of two contrasting shades of gray. The name Saab is placed in the middle of a circle and written in the same font that the Swedish automaker has used since the first half of the 1970s.

The new Saab logo will make its production debut next summer if NEVS decides to start production of a gasoline-powered 9-3.

Wow. I wonder how much they spent on design studies and designers to come up with that.

And the finished product is ...... a circle!!!

Indeed. I get what they were trying to do -- Keep the shape and the font-type because it is recognizable, etc. However, I'm disappointed they didn't at least TRY to come up with an all-new griffin design, adopt an all-new logo based on the old airplane-theme, or just come up with something unique. Hell, even just adding a bit of color to the logo (a blue logo with red or silver lettering to evoke the old, traditional logo perhaps?) would have been something more meaningful. Granted, maybe there is a legal reason for this and, in part of the sale agreement, NEVS was prohibited from using the original emblem colors or any kind of new/revised/redesigned griffin/airplane-theme in their reborn company logo. Still, that seems like a cop-out.

Really, I can't help but feel like they also did it so they wouldn't have to redo the spot on the hood where the old Griffin Logo used to reside above the grille. That's been a Saab stable for some time, even up until the brand was killed and bought by NEVS. Could it be that simple or is there something more here?

They did not buy the rights to use the Griffin. This is why.

Absolutely, but not getting the rights to use the Griffin logo may not mean they couldn't have developed their own, unique looking Griffin logo that didn't resemble or impede on the Saab/Scania trademark, no?

And if the sale agreement said that they couldn't develop any griffin-esque logo, I'm sure they could have come up with something else rather than just a circle around Saab font.

    But that's just my opinion.

Reminds me of that Futurama episode.

Bo-ring. Reminds me of the late 80's thru '90's when emblems were replaced by stickers or colorless recesses in plastic on certain cars. It would be better if they just gave it some dimension, it looks like a sticker now.

So, does that mean we're getting Saabs again? Oooor... is this not for the US or something?

Because I want a Saab, but I don't want one from Qingdao.

The jet motif in the grille is great, and I love it. I hope it stays for the future. I would also hope they offer gasoline versions of their cars, too... They should check out Leaf and iMiev sales if they think they'll be selling anything worth a damn.

With 9 months remaining on my Saab lease, I would normally start the difficult process of selecting a color for my next Saab.

Oh what to buy (lease) now...

They should have kept it in blue without the Griffin. Blue conveys truth, integrity, and dependability. Pale grey is soulless.

I put this on the hood of my classic 900:
