Re: Meet Your 2010 Pontiac Lineup; ONE MODEL!

They really ought to have put a ram air intake on the last model year Vibe to make it a true Pontiac.

Seriously, I've always been a fan of Pontiac's "Bread n' Butter" vehicles. I have an '09 Torrent and an '02 Grand Am GT Sedan. I chose Pontiac because, while I appreciated practicality, Pontiac meant I could still be practical without looking or feeling like I'm driving an appliance. Sure, the ram air intake on the GT wasn't that functional, but it gave the car a great look, and it handles nice with the upgraded Pontiac suspension. With the Torrent, it was the beefy, tubular roof racks that set it apart; and the tighter suspension makes it nicer to drive.

No more Pontiac means I'll be mulling the Blue Oval or Dodge offerings; and maybe even consider Mazda who have seem to have done well with what Pontiac started.

I'd have to agree with you on the Mazda. It's a sporty looking car that's both affordable and practical. I think GM really missed the mark when they went from the raked lines of the Grand Am to the plain jane appearance of the G6. I'm a fan of clean lines, but it always felt like there was something missing.

Re: Meet Your 2010 Pontiac Lineup; ONE MODEL!

The last pontiac is a toyota. Wow. This aint a bad vehicle, but it shouldnt be the farewell vehicle of a muscle car brand...

Im done with GM too. Im sure the Camaro and CTS-V is gonna fall behind the G8 soon enough...

IMO they should have kept the bodystyle of the Grand Am, just updated the interior to look more like recent GM interiors, along with more features of course.

GM likes fitting farewells to loyal fans....

Pontiac still deserves to be sold.

The Camaro just can't cut the mustard.

It is neither edgy nor stylish. It is an anachronistic throwback. They should have put together a coupe based on the G8. Too late. If I can swing it, I will get a G6 coupe or a G8. Otherwise, Sayonara or perhaps even to bayao.

Nick

1) It wasn't their #1 brand at all when it died... more like #4 out of 4 brands, IIRC ;

2) The last Plymouth was a true 100%-Mopar model, not a Toyota with a Plymouth grille.

So, no, it wasn't worse... it was a lot better, actually.

Same thing with Oldsmobile.

You eliminate all the volume Pontiac business (because GM can't afford R&D or advertising) and it's nothing but a runt who sells 50,000 money-losers per year, only about 2 sales per month per dealership. Lots of overhead for no results.
Not at all.

Around here at least, EVERY SINGLE Pontiac dealer is forced to carry the GMC and Buick brands.

The extra Pontiac dealer footprint is easy to quantify: it's exactly zero.

No more Pontiacs of any kind. This thread should have been renamed to Vibe gets the axe. GM and Toyota have agreed to cease Vibe production in August. The G6 is the last Pontiac coming off the line and it is only for fleet sales. No coupes or convertibles. Just sedans by the look of it.

How pathetic is that? Couldn't we have gotten a run of 500 of each model in commemorative colours or anything instead of the other kind of bird? I think the total kick in the nuts that GM has demonstrated to Pontiac fans is total garbage. Here in Canada, we are being offered $1000 in loyalty but the prices are already way overinflated so there is actually no saving and dealers being dealers are looking to snap up your trade for absolutely nothing. I tried to make a deal on a G6 GT Coupe or a G8 sedan with the V6 and was astounded by the garbage the dealer was trying to pull. Then they wonder why they are going out of buisiness.

GM needs to reinvent the dealership experience. Salespeople need to know their product. I shouldn't be the one educating my salesperson about his product. I shouldn't have to endure tactics that are designed to swindle me.

Disgusting.

True.

But they spent five years plus setting them up.

I thought I read somewhere that G.M. was going to stop building the Vibe.

a good deal, or a rip off is simply a perception. as far as you knowing more about the car than the salesperson, that can be a good indication of what type of person you're dealing with....and unfortunately it becomes a direct reflection of the company he/she represents. this is a big part of why GM wants to shut down a third of its dealerships. let those that have good people stay in business.
as far as trade-ins go and sale prices and such....car buying has always been a highly negotiable business. don't take it personally, but dealers do it every day...you and i only do it every few years. they don't look at a trade in as their own personal vehicle, to them it's dollars and cents only.
